This is an oft-asked question. The following response by Rick @RCanada is the best I have ever read.

RCanada said:Adeniums do not come true from seed. Pink is the most prevalent color. With all the hybridizing that has been done over many years, the likelyhood is greater to receive something close to pod/pollen parents.

The likelyhood of receiving a seedling which produces a yellow or dark purple from Pink pod or pollen parents is probably non existent. For the best percentages, it is worth purchasing from sellers of good hybridizing practices and proven results.

Some will say that if the color of the seedlings skin is green, then good possibilities of a white bloom and if reddish, then a darker color bloom. This all becomes quite washed out when we factor in the number of lighter colors and then the dark colors.

I find it easier to not assume or hope for anything other than good growth and for it to bloom. If in fact it is something different or alike, this is good.

Rick

If anyone has any experience with reputable vendors it would be so helpful. Being new it can be frustrating and disappointing to not get what one expects. I am not in an area where I have the option of many local suppliers.

RCanada. Wow, most informative!!! Not taking issue with anything you have said, nor could I !! I have 19 adeniums, all grown from seed purchased on the Internet, from eBay, and Amazon is into the frey as well now. They are almost eight years old now, and some 1' tall. Some have bloomed, single multiple flowers, stunning to me, but always the same pink single flowers. If you are aware of any Canadian sources to purchase live adeniums from, I would certainly love to know of same and I think Mongerj would as well - I have never found one yet! With respect to "reputable" adenium seed sellers, I have never run into one yet from either Thailand or China. Perhaps you know differently! They advertise everything from Blue to Blue and Red and on and on! Same thing with Rose seeds! I have seen my exact picture of "HT. Harry Wheatcroft" which I entered in the 2017 garde.org photo contest, along with the offering of seeds from same for sale! "They" advertise bright blue roses, anything and everything, because it is a "sellers" market, and we have no idea what we are purchasing! I watched a couple of YouTube videos on adeniums out of Florida the other day, and a grafting one fromThailand. In the latter case, they would take 1/2" diameter cuttings from one plant and graft same unto another coloured plant, and seal the cut with "crazy glue"! This is nothing new to you, but I thought quite fascinating, and if I ever get a "different" coloured adenium, I am going to try it! For eight years I have been doing the "bring them in under lights in the Winter, and take them outside in late Spring. I have three Bouganvillea in bloom right now, and a Persian lime with three good sized fruit. I also have 8 or 9 plumerias, but I doubt I will live long enough to see one of those bloom!! LOL. While I understand the need to regulate some live plants/roots/bulbs being imported into our adjacent countries, it has gotten a little bit absurd! If a Florida adenium dealer sold me a plant and I brought it into Canada "declared" do they think that it could wipe out the entire population of adenium plants in Canada because of some transmittable virus, etc? I would like to know how that is possible??? It is sooooooo bad now, that the last time entering the US, I had to either eat an apple in my carry-on luggage, or throw it in the garbage right then! I'm certain, the same thing coming into Canada for Americans!!! What is going on in this World???

I have not been ordering seeds over the last year or so. There are two sellers of A. obesum seeds that I would purchase from and that is Adenium_ko (Ko Chi Lung) on ebay or Orient Adeniums (Rinoa). These are both reputable sellers and stand behind their seeds. Although very closely related as they have worked together and share the same passion of Adeniums.
As for purchasing Adeniums within Canada, they are not always easy to find. I sold off a bunch of mine this last fall to try and make room for those growing larger.
I have had a few people in Ontario mentioning to me that they have purchased Adeniums in Ontario. There is one fella here on the West Coast that has them on occasion.
As far as viruses and such being carried across the boarder, I am not a scientists and could not comment. I do have a great deal of respect for those that do have the knowledge and try to keep our country free of diseases and viruses which could otherwise destroy plant life here.
For myself, getting an Import Permit so that I could buy some very nice colors was by far the best choice for me. The plants that I purchased all where what I ordered and in very good health.
Reaching out to others to find reputable sellers of plants or seeds is definitely the way to go.
