It's about 2.75".
I simply don't know if I should leave all the scape or less. I know things that can rot are not good in soil but I can be wrong!

I'll tell you what I do with a prolif when it gets roots. I cut the scape, leaving about 4 inches of scape below the prolif. I then take the scape and push it down in the ground until the roots of the prolif are underground and leave it like that. The scape acts as a brace for the plant. Works great.

Where do I cut it?
I want to pot it. One question, the piece of scape that maybe left attached to it doesn't rot

Yep, you made it two days between panic attacks Hilarious!

Eventually the scape will rot, but that's normal. It doesn't mean the prolif will also rot. It has some roots appearing so should be fine. If you're familiar with the technique of air layering you could root the prolif without cutting it off until it is well rooted.

Thank you Hemlady!

Sue, don't get me into something else that surely will cause panic!!! Just to know, what is air layering? I guess I'll cut it and plant it but now I'm curious!

Air-layering pictures. Some people do that with daylily prolifs.

Oh, got it, I knew about it.
But I won't try. I'll prepare a nice pot and stick it in there! Thank You!

There is not enough root development for the prolif to be able to support itself, so a portion of the scape is left to give the prolif a good stable base to hold it up and keep it from moving around (wind, pets, you etc) and preventing the small roots from losing contact with the soil. So whatever amount of scape is necessary to provide that steady anchor should be the amount of scape left when planted. I don't think the prolif at this point would be getting any nourishment from the scape after it is detached. So the height and amount of leaves on the prolif can be a determining factor as well as the type of soil it will be anchored in . Heavy clay soil would not need as big of a piece of scape for an anchor but very light sandy soil would need more.

So, here I am!
Potted two prolifs.
One is the one showed here, I cut at ground level. The prolif is very big, it's tall as her mother plant.

The other was on a scape on spartacus adorned. the small leaves went all dry, so the other day I cut it and planted it in the ground. I checked and roots seem to grow, so I potted her too. If they'll survive they will be a gift for a friend.
There's another one growing on Pagan Ritual, and looks healthy.

Thanks Larry and everyone for having time and patience to guide me! I'd be lost without you all! Thank You!
