sorry, it is just what is left after it went to seed... It just showed up in a wild meadow near my house this year. It is the only one like it that I've ever seen. It was really pretty and I'd love to sow more but I want to know what it is first. Thanks!

One of the many sorrels... most of which are more or less edible.
You shouldn't have to plant any more... once they go to seed... there should be plenty.

Hmm, I looked up those images and the plants looked a lot like spinach for beet greens.. This plant had red leaves prior to seeding. There was no green part, if I'm remembering correctly. Though, of course, now I'm doubting my memory. I wish I had taken a picture before. I do know it was always a long slender plant, with small leaves compared to its height.

Sheep sorrel often has reddish leaves.
And if you google it... you will see that the leaves are small...
