Bulbs can be planted any time the ground isn't too frozen to make a hole (and I even know of people who pried up frozen slabs of surface dirt, planted, and flipped the frozen dirt back on top). Tulips do need some amount of cold to bloom, though, so I'd say by the end of January.
And I would NOT advise planting while the ground is still so warm... the bulbs will just start sprouting. If you've planted, odds are they will be fine, so don't worry about it... but if you haven't put them in the ground yet, hold off a while.
We can do pickup the first weekend in November, although if anybody is interested in ordering Amaryllis bulbs, that's pushing it a bit for holiday bloom (takes 6-8 weeks, although a heat mat can usually push it closer to 6... and I think the Israeli and Peruvian ones bloom quicker than the Dutch bulbs).
Do we want Amaryllises this year, or wait until next year?
I've got a few 'Princess' bulbs coming that I can use as gifts this year, and I have a fair number that should bloom this year, so I could pick up a few but not the kind of quantity I've done in the past.
However, I a quite tempted by 'Gervase', a jumbo (36+) Dutch bulb that's priced about $8, maybe plus shipping, depending on whether they're willing to sort of toss other bulbs in with 'Princess'.
The best bargains are generally the jumbo bulbs from Peru. There are 4 still in stock, red & white 'Minerva', white 'Denver', blushing pink 'Vera', and the classic 'Red Lion'.
Past favorite 'Blossom Peacock' is out of stock, and I'm not sure it was ever in stock this year. However, I see that 'Double Dream', another that got raves, is still in stock.
LMK what catches your eye... if we have some interest, I'll start a new thread, and we can let people know about the sale.
