Welcome! to NGA!

I could be wrong, but,
I think you may have this dreaded invader! Compare your plant to this. Click on the link here. Air Potato (Dioscorea bulbifera)

edited to add...After looking again, I believe I really could be wrong. Hope I am. The fruit doesn't look quite right.

What did the flowers look like? Any pictures? Someone should be able to ID this for you but my search comes up empty.

It could be a Tung Oil tree/Vernicia fordii. Take a close look at the leaves to see if there are two reddish color glands...like this. If your plant is Vernicia fordii the seeds are extremely poisonous so be careful please.

In order to get fruit, you have to have flowers. Maybe they were too small to notice?

The inside of the fruit resembles a Tung Oil tree's fruit a lot.

What attracted me was the pretty flowers. It took me three long years to identify my NOID tree as a Vernicia fordii/Tung Oil tree.
There used to be a Tung Oil plantation near where I live (before my time). Henry Ford was looking for a good source of domestic oil as it had previously been imported from China.
The area was known as Ways, Georgia, later called Richmond HIll.
