Thread OP

Here is a picture of the most beautiful flower I've ever seen. I was stationed in Jacksonville, FL and this growing vine was intertwined with some Holly Bushes. Then suddenly it bloomed and viola! I've since moved but want that beautiful flower back but don't know it's name ( someone called it a Flaming Iris but I'm not sure that's correct)!!! Can anyone tell me name of this beauty and where I can find?

I grow several very large containers of Gloriosas every year. The are over wintered dry in the basement here.

I attained a total number of tubers 400 a couple of year's ago and have since cut back on number of containers used for Gloriosas but still give tubers away every late spring. If you contact me next spring I'd be happy to send you a boatfull for postage. I'll note some links below here...

Gloriosa Lily (Gloriosa superba 'Rothschildiana')

In the comments at the bottom of this page is a detailed post on how I grow them. Also, in the pics on this page are some of the tubers amassed after re-potting.

I started out with three small tubers from Missouri Botanical Garden (Mobot) in St Louis year's ago. and as noted previously, my stock grew to 400.
Gloriosas are one of the 4 cornerstones of my garden.

I grow lots of Gloriosas in my garden too, and they die back in winter even in central Florida but come back every spring and bloom off and on all summer.

You'll have trouble finding any tubers to start at this time of year. They're usually sold out. So if you can wait until next spring, jmorth's offer is a great start.

By the way, if you could fill in your personal profile with your location, we'll have a better idea on how to answer questions for you in future.
