Hi, fellow iris maniacs. My name is Lyn and I live in rural New York the Finger Lakes region) ninety miles away from the closest iris club so face to face meetups/sales /garden visits aren't on the cards for me.

So grateful to all of you for your photos and info. What a massive resource for iris lovers!
I've been lurking on this site for a few years and finally decided to join. It's been my go to for looking up tall bearded iris.

My passion is for tall bearded modern iris (as someone on this forum once wrote "the more ruffles the better" ) and this year I went off the deep end and did my first crosses. Pods are swelling - yay! - and I'd love to chat with others about their personal experiences in getting iris seeds to grow. From what I've read there seem to be a variety of techniques, many of them possibly not suited for a climate with cold, snowy winters. Really interested in your iris trading - is there a thread or section of the site where people post offers and requests for trades? Mostly I've just used the database so I'm not au fait with navigating the other areas of this site - any tips appreciated.

Here's a pic from my garden this season cuz everyone loves iris pix

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

So happy you decided to join the rest of us 'out in the open' Hurray!

I also have my first seed pods growing bigger by the day and am very excited about it too!
I have grown bearded iris from seeds before, but never my own... just a bit nerve wracking, isn't it? Crossing Fingers!

What a great combination of colours on that image! Thumbs up

Welcome! Lyn! What a lovely picture! Glad you joined the banter here. It's what gets us through those cold long winters, and then we get to see everyone's bloom season in the spring. Most of our threads on here take on a life of their own, and we don't get too excited if we are off topic once in a while! Rolling on the floor laughing Whistling Dogs, Cats, Raccoon, Chickens, horses, you name it, we talk about it as you probably know from reading all these posts. Welcome, and feel free to share more of you nice pictures! Smiling

...and tutus, Tom! Don't forget them tutus! Big Grin

And yes, Lyn, we sometimes have cold winters, but never much snow - a bit of a challenge for the irises! Thumbs down

Thanks, Tom! Like you, I love horses. That is my GRAND passion. Have 3 of my own (who are waiting for breakfast) and I work at a horse farm. You have got a shitload of irises my friend, and lots from one of my favorite breeders, Barry Blyth, as I recall, And another picture, since it pleases you.

Another nice picture!

What bred of horses? I actually sold a horse last week, so I'm down to 19 now! I can't remember the last time I was under 20 horses. (Although I may have a few foals coming next year) Whistling

Hi Lyn We no longer have horses (some time now). I have seen Paso Fino demonstrations. We grow mostly medians & are cutting back because of age. More orders than last year however.

Thanks for saying hi, Lucy and iciris. Frankly having some trouble figuring out how to reply to a specific post. It only seems to let me tack something on the end of the thread. Learning curve I guess.

@irisarian Well, at least you can say you have done your bit to pass on the passion for dwarfs and median irises! Hurray!

Hi Lyn. I'm fairly new, too. I'm an elementary school teacher from Michigan and hope this site will help me get through the long winters also. I purchased a farm about a year ago and am enjoying my cows and even cutting hay. I hope to get horses and chickens one day. I have been busy collecting irises the past few years and really caught iris fever a month ago when my iris garden bloomed profusely. I am also planning on breeding iris next year. Look forward to chatting with you.
