Great idea with the ice cubes, Zuzu. Do you do this several days in a row or spread them out?

I spread it out and I only do it two or three times. I do it once right around Christmas, and again in the middle of January. If the weather in January is really warm, I do it again at the end of January.

It depends on the size of the plant or the size of the bed or container. Just one or two ice cubes would be enough for a small alpine plant, for example, or approximately one ice tray per Peony. I have to be a little careful because my alpines are mixed with other plants. It wouldn't be good if a big bunch of ice cubes got too close to the fuchsias, for instance.

A bit difficult during summer, got to keep it in shade and cool, and that is the total reverse here..sunshiny, dry & very hot. I have it in the shadiest side of my growcamp and nearest to the fountain. It loves cool and cooler, so I guess that is why I get the blooms around Fall.
I thought it was slowly dying actually, some of the leaves have dried out badly, but it is tenacious..just needs to feel that cool down. Smiling I just have to remember this one likes a good shower everyday, and that is rather hard, with our ongoing drought.

Yes, I watched the news last night, they talked about the drought in California. That is down right scary.

Just took some more photos this morning of my Barbosella cogniauxiana..I just love it when it continues to show off more blooms...so tiny and pretty. I promise I will take better care of its leaves...just so hard during summer...but I have a plan for next season..maybe I can hang it inside a big tinted glass vase, keep it in shade and that might help it from drying out too much.

I thought this is a running thread for blooming in October of every year, since the thread started in 2011 and the title is open ended year-wise.
