I got these 2 wicker baskets from a thrift store & thought they would make cute miniature gardens. I'm having trouble finding information on preparing them for the long term. I spray painted them with a rustoleum Enamel paint (Which made them darker than I really wanted but oh well), both inside & out. These will probably be kept indoors the majority of the time. I know they won't last forever but I'd like them to last as long as possible (in case they are given as gifts or raffle items). Do I lay plastic down on the bottom & along the sides? Should I poke holes in the plastic to allow drainage? I was thinking to put the soil on the plastic & not in some container inside the basket. But I'm also thinking of other options.
