Remember, if you have any of the cultivars in the archive list and have not posted an evaluation, then you can do so. Jon and I give an acorn for each evaluation and you can post an update evaluation once a year to earn an additional acorn.

Barbalee said:Some people seem to not use the plant list, and I sometmes see few shown as having the plant but then pictures from many members. I choose plants in one way by looking at how many people have it, but I also look at how many people have submitted photos. There can be a big difference between the two! I figure if a lot have submitted photos, it's a pretty popular variety. They could sure submit evaluations, too!

Some may also have pictures, but not the plant. Last year I went to a daylily nursery and photographed over 100 cultivars. I also occasionally photograph plants at big box garden centers, too, like Home Depot. My daylily plant list it's up to date (98%?), But my other plants aren't.

My husband and I got tablets for Christmas from our kids and I have been using that almost exclusively to go to my favorite web pages. This thread made me realize that my tablet doesn't show the right hand side of the pages on NGA. So I checked it out on our desktop computer and sure enough, there is a whole other side that I've been missing. *Blush* Now I'm wondering how I can get my tablet to 'see' the whole page. It doesn't let me just scroll over to it.

Also just wanted to say that now is a great time to get bud count and branching information for those upcoming Daylily of the Day threads. Some of my scapes are turning brown and it's a great chance to take pictures of the branching.

Can you see the right side just by rotating you tablet to show the wider view?

Vickie - Great idea!!! Thank you!

I have a mini ipad (my grandkids gave me for Christimas - so I can skype with them). When I turn my ipad to see wide angle, I can see the entire NGA web pages. So for those using tablets, try looking at the websites by turning your tablets to be wide angle (horizontal). If I am looking at websites using the vertical direction, a lot of information is cut out of the screen and I am unable to scroll over to see it.

WIDE angle, folks! (If you are using a tablet or an ipad.)

I was just out yesterday and thought the same thing so I started measuring the heights of the scapes before pulling them, I found it much harder to count the bud scars on some of the older scapes, the younger scapes that had just finished blooming were much easier to see the bud scars on, some of the older swiveled up ones were almost impossible to see the scars on, especially the ones that only grew small scapes.

Larry - I agree. Those smaller scapes do shrivel including the bud scars.

Another idea is to take a close-up photo of the top section of the scape right after it has completed blooming so that you can see and count all the bud scars. (I might start doing that.)

Yep, I always use the wide side (horizontal) of my tablet when I am surfing the web on it. When I turned it vertical, it cut off the left side of the screen too. All I saw was the forum topics. So when I get home tonight, I thought I would see if I could change some settings... or whatever.

Larry, I know what you mean about the bud scars. There are some that I won't be able to tell how many buds there were because the scape is too dried up.

When I take pictures of the scapes, man does it get harry! I absolutely have to take a picture of the label first, then the scape because without blooms all the scapes look alike Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I suppose I could just go out and write down the info, but I like my picture diary Smiling

Are the evaluations you are referring to the "File a Local Report" that is located on the page for each cultivar? Also, how is one able to see those local reports when they are filed without being part of the "Daylily of the Day" threads?

No, the Daylily of the Day featured cultivar evaluation is a thread with member posts evaluating the cultivar.

Local reports are a report you fill out for yourself and gardeners in your area.

Both features can be found in the Plant Database under the cultivar name.

I guess no one has filled out a local report for any of the daylilies I have looked at...or else I don't know what I'm looking for. Could you provide a link to one of the cultivars in the Plant Database that has had a local report filled out so I can see what it looks like?

The Local Report is found between the Database information about the cultivar and the Database plant photos. See photo:

Thumb of 2016-07-22/beckygardener/544b9c

And here is part of what the report looks like. I could only get some of the info in the photo. The cultivar is Galaxy Explosion. I am the only report at this time:

Everyone - Remember that you can post an evaluation once a year to any Past Daylily of the Day threads:

http://garden.org/barn/potd/ar...

So skim through all those and add an evaluation if you haven't done so over the past year.

Thanks to all who evaluate the Daylily of the Day cultivars to make this a success for everyone. Those evaluations by zone and climate help members to determine whether they should acquire any particular cultivar.

Y'all rock when it comes to helping others! Thank You!
