I'm wondering if it would help the larger buds if you were to snip off the smallest bud (at least), and maybe even the two smallest buds. I'm sure the smallest bud will not mature enough to open.

I might have to consider that. The bud cluster is not looking too good. Am hoping the oldest bud will bloom tomorrow or the next day. The buds just are plumping up like they normally do. I hope they don't die before opening. ...

Well, unfortunately, the oldest bud is shriveling up and dying. I fear I may not get to see any of the buds bloom. I am so sad that this happened. I will add some sugar to the water, but there is no foliage, so it may not help.
