lindalecht, Hi! Yes you did see a Hibiscus that looks like marijuana.Hibiscus coccineus. Here in Texas they are swamp mallow that are called Texas Stars. I was always accused of marijuana by friends. They would not be ground hardy in New Jersey. It would make a lovely potted plant. They die back to ground level but the pot would have to be stored above freezing temps. They are just like all the other rose mallow and are slow spring starters They can be started from seed. Usually white, rarer are reds, I think pinks are in this category.
