Not sure what catfacing is. I do know critters love to bite maters. Squirrels, chipmunks...try leaving a pan of water out away a bit from the maters- gives them the moisture they may be seeking by biting your tomatoes...
So many roads to take, choices to make, and laughs to share!

Never heard of catfacing either, but it IS a real thing. Here's the first article I came across on a quick google search:

Several sites explain catfacing in tomatoes.

http://203.64.245.61/fulltext_...

http://vric.ucdavis.edu/veg_in...

http://cemerced.ucanr.edu/news...

"Catface is expressed as malformation and cracking of fruit at the blossom end, often exposing the locules."

There are several places where catfacing has been discussed here on NGA; this is one:

I thought catfacing too. There's a good picture on this page if you scroll down:

The only thing that makes me think it's not catfacing is that it's in the middle of the tomato and not on the blossom end or stem end. I've only found a couple tomatoes out of 70 plants that have the deformity, but I mainly want to make sure it's not a bug of some kind.
