How many new ones did you add this year?

I guess I added close to a hundred. I love planting the irises, but I'm getting sick of making labels.

I always try to have things planted here by early September so they can establish roots before winter. I only planted about 25 TBs and Medians this year. I'm getting to old, to tired, and lack room. I could dig out more grass but didn't keep my existing beds well weeded this summer so don't need more. Room for seedlings is another problem. I envy many of you for your enthusiasm and ambition.

Well I got well over 300+ new varieties, maybe more like 500 new, some will be listed next year 100 being MTB.

All I need to do now is to cut down the beardless to the ground and continue removing the dead leaves off the bearded. Hope to get it done before it starts raining 24/7 LOL

25 is a good number to have new ones to admire, Paul. I always love seeing the new ones. I need new ones each year. But I still love the old standbys.

Start cutting siberian foliage tomorrow while the weather is warm. That's for my comfort, not the plants.

Dee--do you know if the research work on MTBs is going to be publish? Still needing to put rock on top of rhizome of 'Pixel Packin' Mama'. the rock pile is near the house & I am usually carrying tools.

I'm looking forward to seeing the seedlings as much as the newly planted things, maybe more so.

oh yes, Christmas in the spring.

I have around 80 new ones too add and am just getting started, but right now we're at the beach (Oceanside) and won't return until Thursday -- nice break! As usual I'm running behind, but luckily our warmer weather usually holds until around Thanksgiving.

D, I think POP is at Santa Monica or Long Beach, and I don't know if it's still there. We're down by San Diego, and it's BEAUTIFUL down here! It has been sunny every day with gorgeous sunsets on the water!

Oh It was further north like further than SM and I know where Oceanside is as you pass it before San Diego and the base was near or in that town

I lived in La Mirada and much of my aunts and uncles lived in El Cajun or San Diego. My brother said that there is rain in Torrance yesterday and showers today

I won't ask how many different Iris you have Paul. Let alone how many Hosta. But I have noticed images of your plants, Here and There. I get tired just admiring them all.

Thanks Evan....plants bring me joy...I love my roses and other things also. Would be nice to feel like I did when I was 40.

I bought two from Keppel, one is a mini one. Then I was given about 30, from two different people, mostly TB's but a few "space agers" I guess they are called - I think they are medians. ( I am not as 'up' on the iris vocabulary as I should be). All are planted, but I still need to come up with some rocks to stick on top of them for the winter. Most have rocks on them, but not all yet. I have on occasion lost some due to heaving, and my iris are all in new beds, so I want to make sure they all get 'rocked'. Later this fall I will mulch them also.

I took a bunch of mine (left over from moving to new beds) up to our family cottage in western PA just last weekend. Very late in the season up there. They all have rocks on them, and are now on their own, It will be interesting to see what survives or not.

Jan...thanks for your kind comment on my garden. "space agers" are iris with some type of appendage at or below the beard. Most are TBs. Don't be embarrassed to make comments or ask questions. We are all here to discuss and learn. I hope you are rewarded with lots of bloom next year. Here in zone 5 Utah I like to have things planted by the first of Sept. so they can develope a root system before winter. I don't have a heaving problem with the iris here.

Need to put a rock on top of a new MTB. No problem to find same in N.E. Use bricks if no rock available. Also on a couple plants which we moved late. Usually everyone else has good roots by now.

I am so glad I don't have that heaving over the winter. 4 foot of snow sure holds things down.

I seem to go through cycles on which plant I am currently addicted to. I went through a major iris cycle a few years ago, then clematis, then daylilies, then lilies, then hydrangeas, and this year I landed back on iris. I added about 50 new iris this year. Somehow when I am stuck on other plants, I get 5-10 of them, but when I get started on iris, I have to count by the dozens. They are still my first love! Most of them are tall bearded, though I have a few border bearded, SDB's, and even tried my first few Siberians this year.

I am seriously running out of room, unless I dig up some more beds. I can't wait for spring, though! I know they may not all bloom the first spring, but I can hope, can't I?

I really NEED to add some rebloomers. My gardens are so heavily weighted toward iris and spring bulbs, I have a really bleak period in late summer and fall.
