A difficult plant to capture in pics. It's dark in color and makes long whips that are hard to see. This planter gets direct sun outside from about 11 AM until 4-5 PM, and I've put a few stems in the ground in similar conditions that are doing the same thing, so I don't think it's etiolated.

Does anyone else have this plant? I'm thinking it would make more sense & be easier to appreciate in a hanging planter than wound around/leaning on other plants in an upright one. The urge to snip & stick that stem around the variegated K. fedtschenkoi will probably be manifested by the end of the weekend.

The 2 anywhere-near decent pics I've managed since getting this as a little piece of stem last summer are here:

Very interesting. What a strange looking plant. The color is quite striking. I can't offer any advice, really. When in doubt in my own garden I might set up a plant in two locations to see where it does best. Hanging planters are basically impossible here, though, because of the freak wind storms we get in the winter.

Thanks! I have it in 4 places this summer, I think, some in ground, some in pots. I love the way it's similar to string of bananas.

As far as hanging pots go, they're the only ones I don't worry about in high winds. They just sway. Over winter, they are inside.

Finally a stem of this has grown significantly. I think I was putting previous individuals in too much sun.

What an unusual Kalanchoe plant that is Tiffany. And what an interesting name it has. One wonders how that one was named. Whistling

That is so unusual. But it does make a nice spiller in a combo pot. Very nice.

Just came over this old post... I have the same plant, plus the k. beauverdii juelii. I got them as tiny plantlets and planted them the same day, as you can see the k. juelii is already ten times the size. Haven't found a satisfactory solution yet, the tips snap off as soon as they reach the end of the rod.

What a great view!

I have the same problem trying to "do something" with the bottom kind. The stems snap instead of bending. Looks great while outside for summer but always goes downhill when I bring plants inside for winter.

I've never seen or heard of the leafy kind.

Please keep us informed. I'll be bringing mine indoors soon where it will actually get more sun than where it's been outside for awhile, hence some extreme etiolation.* I'd like to chop and plant some in another container, but I'm thinking this is the wrong the of year.

*That's a result of the sun shifting; it was in full sun during the summer.

Oops, meant to add pic earlier. Here it is:

Interestingly, the leaves have hooks and they'll grab whatever is in reach

Any idea what is the ID of this one, the leaves are so cute.

Zoe, you a have nice crasulla Falcata over there, has it ever bloom? Heard that it also has a beautiful and showy flower, mine has not flower as yet.

Oh, thanks, I checked on google earlier and thought I found a different plant, but later I realized that they are the same as yours, yours are somehow a little bit longer and etiolated, but very healthy with beautiful green colors, thanks for sharing

I prop that type that I have often in the fall, so the overall is more compact.

Those hooks are where plantlets form. And they do grab! Makes hanging pots hard to move if there's too much of it hanging down too far and it just breaks off anyway. Cutting and sticking back into the top helps control it. Hanging also gives the option of winding the stems up the hanging arms. Handy for stems that would otherwise be hanging over the "dark side" of the pot for winter. Weaving around a little trellis could do the same.

No flowers yet. I obtained it only this last spring along with a few other very small succulents and am still experimenting with learning how to care for them, especially with regard to how much of our intense, high altitude sun they can withstand. Since we also freeze in winter, I'll be putting them in a south-facing indoor window soon.

Any suggestions for encouraging bloom?

Mine also never flower, but look greener than yours..
High altitude, I heard those are best for a lot of soft leaf succulents, in fact all succulent nurseries here are at mountain area.
My C. Falcata kept in bright shade area almost no direct sun at all.

Tjoe, I think I got a shadow effect in that photo. Mine is actually very similar to yours in color. I hadn't noticed those ridges before seeing the photo though. No idea what that's about...do you?

Re the altitude: Our summer sun is crazy intense with humidity in single digits. Many plants labeled "full sun" for regular sea level areas will fry here in May through July so I have to acclimate plants slowly and carefully to determine if they can take it. I had this pot in morning and late afternoon sun but shaded mid-day until it went into mostly shade a month or so ago. This photo was taken in June and you can see the color stress on the...one in the front whose name I can't recall.
Thumb of 2022-10-09/NMoasis/8ee108

I might try a separate pot and more sun next summer to see if I can entice it to flower.

Help! Discovered that a long stem of my K. beaverdii broke off ... not certain when it happened but it looks slightly dessicated. It is indoors now for the winter. How do I root this if it isn't too late: soil or water?

I would probably take the leaves off and discard the stem. Each leaf should grow 2 or more babies. Lay on soil surface and they'll plant themselves.
