Last one...promise...for a few days anyway. This was NOT Brookgreen Gardens. This was in a open field behind where I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. It was the only one growing along with all the tall grass. It was maybe 10 to 12 inches in height. Sorry for not having photos of the leaves or stem...I know better now. From doing my own search is how I found the name Mexican Sunflower...but like my mother, I've been known to be wrong too!! Sighing! Thank you for any info!!

Similar is Coreopsis palmata (prairie coreopsis) but I'm far from certain:

Ahhhh...sooby, you may be right with the Prairie Tickseed, the petals seem to be shaped the same.

The hairy leafcup has thorns on it and I really don't remember this having thorns at all.

If not Coreopsis or Smallanthus, I wonder if it could be: Bur Marigold (Bidens aristosa)

That link and the first one you sent both say "Error 403 Forbidden". It was the second link you sent showing the blooms and leaves that I was only able to see.

Gee, I wonder why it's showing that error message? Let me try again. I googled for S.C. Yellow Wildflowers and they were on this page: https://uswildflowers.com/wfqu...

... ok, I tested it and it works now. Not sure why it didn't work the other two times; maybe because I was copying the link for the single flower and not the entire page? Confused Blinking

Believe me I'm not in any way shape or form and expert...but my flower seems to have it's petals in 4 groups of 2, the 2 petals gap 2 petals kinda thing. It's what I noticed anyway. The Bur Marigold doesn't seem to look like that. I'm not trying to make this hard either...I promise!! lol

LOL, you aren't making it hard ... my vision is just the pits and I mostly guess at ID's. I'm sure someone will be along in the next day or so with an exact ID. We have some really great gardeners here and it amazes me how they can spot the littlest differences in flowers, leaves, etc. So, hang in there. You will get a system message each time someone posts on the thread and I'm sure someone will have ideas as to who the lovely yellow bloom is. Smiling

These two pictures of the Coreopsis show that pattern also, whether there's something else we haven't thought of that does that too I don't know.

Since I started taking photos...omg...everything pops out to me and I notice everything. Believe it or not I'm suppose to wear bifocals my eyes are so bad, when I'm out taking photos I don't even wear my glasses...but I can find the tiniest insect and take some amazing macro photos of them. It's crazy..."What I See"!! Hilarious! Whistling

nodding I told you I'm old ... still trying to ID a flower that was already ID by @Sooby 's good eye! There are a few Coreopsis native to S.C. and it certainly looks like Coreopsis. Here's another one: Star tickseed (Coreopsis pubescens)

It's all good...I think anyway, the more suggestions or observations the more it gets narrowed down to the right one. RIGHT? I think this one is solved too now!! Had to go change the name in my portfolio. lol
