I was thinking dark purple as well with perhaps a bit of silver or yellow.

Hi All,
This is my very first post to this awesome website.

I would have to say that Wendy's Wish Salvia would be my favorite long blooming perennial. I just discovered this plant last year and planted 4 in my Florida, zone 9a garden last Spring.

I planted them just under the outer edge of some tall trees in my new shade garden. They were an immediate favorite of my hummers and sphinx moths. Even with 90 degree plus summers (we really only have only 2 seasons: summer and winter), extremely high humidity, several hard freezes and 20" of rain this winter (usually winter is very dry here) they have bloomed non-stop since planted. My newly arrived hummers have started feasting on them again :)

I picked up 3 more this past week :)

Welcome, Rhonda. I'm a lover of Wendy's Wish as well. I hope mine survived our long, nasty winter but I'll buy it again if it didn't.

Thanks for the welcome, Arlene in Georgia :)

Arlene in NY...I hope your plants make it. The entire North has had an awfully brutal and long winter. Wendy is supposed to be hardy to zone 8, but I've found that micro climates in our yards can sometimes allow for pushing the zones.

Thanks, Rhonda. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. It really is one of those wonderful plants for garden and the hummingbirds do love it. On my notes for the plant I just saw "hardy to 25F". Many days this past winter we were around zero so I guess I will be buying it!

Thanks for the tip about the salvia, I have a couple and I am always looking for ways to attract hummers to the yard. Thank You!

I wish I had a better photo of it for you. Here it got over 5' wide and about 3' tall. It was loaded with blooms all summer and well into fall.

Thanks. Even when I cut it back hard to get rid of the old blooms, it bounces back immediately.

I think I want one! Do you see hummers coming to it?

Yes, I have seen hummers but never when I had a camera nearby!

I do treat it as an annual.
