Susan: I just found their website with 2014 plants listed.I think they still function but are under AM managment and from what the complaints are sounding like ,it wasnt a good move.

I'm disappointed by this news, that's where I had just found red yucca and a pink form that had me excited. HCG used to be a top 30 company, but I don't trust anything under American Meadows umbrella. That's such a shame.

I cannot believe AM is operating a website called 'High Country Gardens'. Sad That does not really seem right to do that, just to keep HCG customers. I do not want anything to do with AM and it is not all about plants, it was the customer service because you will eventually have a problem.

I saw that review. They had the nerve to tell you they had left you a message, again treating the customer like they were stupid. If it is just over a few dollars they would do better to just apologize and give you a refund. Do they not know everyone reads these? They make their self look silly, I thought they were very rude to blow you off like that. Glare

I did find a couple of sources with good ratings offering red yucca, Sooner Plant farm and Forest farm. Sooner offers gallon sized plants, which is a bit larger than I'd like to pay shipping for, and FF is kinda pricey on shipping if you're only ordering single or few plants (although they are packaged beautifully- the extra attention they give ensures receiving quality product). As spring draws near, I'll keep my eye out for other companies that may offer them as well.

Jo Ann, I ordered from them once a few years ago, and it was one of the best mail order experiences I've ever had. It was a big order, with perennials and some Magnolias, and everything was top notch. And besides the plant quality being excellent, the detail in packaging was the best I've seen.

I noticed that the red yucca FF offers is only listed as hardy to zone 7, although it was the same species. Curious if that's just based on old information?

Neal: I usually google the plant and get images that have a nursery website.I sometimes find a few discrepancies as to zone from one garden site to another.
I also check the old DG Plant Files to see zones listed and maybe other vendors

Yep, that's where I found the 2 vendors above as carrying red yucca. Come to think of it, database listed it as hardy to zone 6 too, I feel that's probably accurate.

I know they are hardy to at least 1degree F here. I've had the about 5 years now. I think you can grow them too.

I got my red yucca at Lowe's here in Middle Tennessee a few years ago. They also have the Yellow Sun but I haven't gotten it yet. Probably will this year.

Oooohh, I'll be keeping an eye out! I peruse the garden center weekly at our local Lowes, and they often get unusual plants in!

Lantana is definitely the winner in our yard, followed closely by KO roses.

I love Lantana, they steal the show. I did not have any last year but the year before last I had two or three. I have ordered Trailing Lavender and two Trailing White for spring. I love my knockouts, they are blooming machines!! Along with Lord Baltimore Hibiscus. I got two new rose shrubs for next year and one is the light pink KO and the Fair Child, both going into pots.
