As my blooming season is coming to a rapid end, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that helped out, gave advice, and such along the way. As a newbie this year to lilies other than just "pretty colors for the yard". So here is to many more seasons with everyone. Hoping I can fill the lily void with success with some seeds I have aquired, and a couple from my own.

Tracey, im stressing starting seed this year. Harvest what i have from my own plants. While i label everything i put in. Especially since i have some open pollenated. But I'm just curious what they could turn into. One is Karen north open pollinated. Citronelle tiger lily open pollinated. My own Crosses are graffity ×eyeliner , triumphator x holland beauty. And orange sensation xmatrix.

Oh forgot to ask tracey, is there a name for the seed mix at flower factory?

They call it "potting mix". They are I open until the end of September I think.

K. I'm gonna get some tomorrow. Maybe they will have some extra pots i can buy too

It's great to hear your enthusiasm, Dave. But we wouldn't all be here unless we ALL learned from each other. Maybe it's just because I'm not so interested in daylilies, etc., but I really think this is the most informative forum on the site! And that partly goes to our forum moderators who structured the lily forum with the intent of preserving useful information.

Don't expect much from your Karen North pod. Only because I grow it and it is a convenient parent, I have tried pollenating it several times with questionable success. Not including a few unsuccessful tries in early years (and before good record keeping), these are my results.

I'm enjoying myself very much. Both on this site, and in my garden. I am on other forums on NGA, but do not visit them as much. Along with looking at other various lily pages. But the people on here are truly amazing. Their willingness to help and encourage is great. Sometimes I think I probably ask a dumb question. But I'm just trying to learn what I can. The old NALS yearbooks I got are amazing. I keep trying to find a regional society around me, but WRLS seems to be inactive. And WILS, I'm not sure what to think about them. But it would be nice to have one course enough that i could join the meetings now and then

So Rick, did you ever try it as a pollen parent??????
I have tried it as a pollinator for a few years now on other Langkongese hybrids and this year I have one or 2 pods developing on those, but I moved them to shade and we are still having YO-YO weather so they have appreciated the cooler moments. (not as much as me!!!) Most of the time I get no seed here even on the easy ones, EXCEPT the Western American hybrids, they are VERY happy this year and I have started seed harvest, got more than I know what to do with, there may be some OP seed on the blooming auction this fall. The butterflies LOVED them! Probably hummingbirds and moths too.

Karen North's pollen on asiatics Olina and Shirley yielded no pods. Something always gets in the way of me trying it on L. lankongense and L. duchartrei.

When you have used 'Karen North' as a pod parent, did the pods swell up like they had seed Rick? Almost every pod on mine here are really fat.

Typically in my experience, the North Lilies as pod parent have a lot of chaff. And then what looks good has germination issues. I keep trying though...

Thanks Tracey. So swelling pods and producing seed is common with them. Just not usually good viable seed. Which will most likely be the case here since mine were OP. I thought it was a little weird that nearly every pod on the 3 stems I have is swollen.

I never say never. But sometimes pods look nice and fat only to be full of chaff. Even seed that looks good can have some difficulties during the germination process.

That said, in this pollinating process, you WILL have plenty of success. And who knows, maybe you have just the something I have never tried here that gives you great seed.

They uppermost "good" pod is Karen North x Tinos. To the right is Karen North x Zeus. I did do a KN x L. duchartrei this year, that one is lowermost right and spongy. (The other turned up pods are solid.) There other "good" pod at center left is open pollenated.
