Maple Leaf Roses
I made some of these last year and they were a big hit - the bigger the leaf the better (and easier to handle).

I agree, just gorgeous! I wish our Maple trees turned colorful like they do up north. We very rarely get autumn color down here and those leaf roses are so pretty! Can they be sprayed with some sort of preservative to keep them from decaying?

They typically don't decay. They fade over a years time or so and dry out is all.

You can get floral sprays (paint) from Michaels to color dried flowers. I would try one of those on the leaves if you need more color, then make the rose?

Not here either - they would have to come from up north on the HUGE maple trees.

My mother used to make roses from crepe paper back in the early fifties. They were beautiful and she could not keep enough made. All her friends wanted them. She put wax on them to seal them and make them strong and hold shape. Have not thought about that for a long time. Thanks for the memory

I made a lot of them from just one leaf and did it looser. Didn't make a wired bouquet , just made a loose arrangement, You can use dried pressed ferns and other stuff with them that way.

I just stopped and asked people who had beautiful trees if I could take some leaves. Less for them to rake up.

My sister's neighbor has a maple tree on his lot but the leaves are rather small. Florida does not seem to grow any really large-leafed trees.
