Thread OP

Some people have said it may be the Japanese Beatle. Do they eat Hostas? Every year something is eating my Hostas. I cannot find a solution.

I did not get the slug bait out in time, and had this damage. But after the bait it persisted. The plants just looked dull, and chewed, sort of old and tired. I saw several earwig. I treated for them, and the leaves are improving very well. For me, I love my Hosta. So maddening to have something eat them.

Looks like mechanical damage.

Or, did you have a hail storm recently? Those holes look torn and not eaten to me, too.

Meant to add, have you fertilized them recently? They also need extra water through the hot weather to keep on putting up new fresh leaves. I top dress the Hostas in my daughter's garden with alfalfa pellets in the summer, for a good soil amendment with a boost of nitrogen.

But DO keep the slug bait around them at all times!

Hi everyone! I've read that cracked eggshells are great to put around host's - the slugs hate them!
