Where did all these mystery plants come from?

Grows in Europe, zone 7a. Overwintered in the ground once so far (moved to pot afterwards).

Flat spherical shape. Less than 1 foot tall.

It doesn't look perfect at the moment with all those brown ends... I wonder if it's due to too much rain we've had this "summer".
