This is by far the hardest-working plant on my property. Stick a piece anywhere & boom! Instant blooms. Ornamental purslane (Portulaca umbraticola.) Most of my other plants aren't there for their blooms, I'm all about wild foliage.

I went to stores twice to find other colors &/or some moss roses but only found some mostly dead clearance plants. Bad timing. Packs of seeds scattered at several diff times in diff locations have produced nothing.

Let's see what folks have done with purslanes/Portulacas this summer!

They are hard working indeed and in our wicked summer heat do so well.

Ours too. I am always amazed at how it needs no rooting, just a hole in te dirt.

Thanks for sharing!

I don't know what's happened to my purslane this summer. They started declining in July, when we weren't getting much rain. Haven't seen a bloom in about a month, and all the tips are brown. On the other hand, they've self-seeded here and there, and those are doing great. They're still one of my favorites, but I was surprised they didn't hold up during my Florida summer.

Is your purslane new this year? IS it in a pot?
Is it getting plenty of direct sun?

Mine don't do well without a lot (8 hours at least) of direct sun. I don't over water them, but here in Arizona I do have to water a little bit every other day.

Yes, they're new, and mostly they're planted in the ground. They're in full sun, but I haven't watered them very much. Maybe I ignored those too much Shrug!

I do have a large one in a hanging basket and I've watered that one pretty regularly, but it looks the same as the ones in ground. The tips looked burned.

Here are some photos - not sure if you can see what I mean about the browning tips. I'm pretty sure that it's "operator error" - either something I did or didn't do that's made them look this way.

I can't see brown tips but are these in the shade a lot?

If so, move then somewhere else and give them a shot of Bloom Booster Flower Food as Jeff shared in another Purslane thread.

The ones in the ground are in full sun, the hanging basket was in full sun, but I moved it thinking it might help. However, I'll try some bloom booster - I haven't fertilized them at all, so that may be just what they need! Thank you!

I'm really admiring that Fairytale Cinderella. Drooling I've never seen anything like it in a purslane. But, I might be missing out on other beauties.

Trying to recall the name of this one that just started showing up at the end of July ~
