I posted this in the Trees and Shrubs forum. I guess no one had an answer to this. I thought I'd come over and ask some Texans. Do you have a Tulip Magnolia? Is it blooming now instead of early spring like mine? Why??

Cheryl, first of all, that looks so pretty !
I don't know why but back in '07 when we had a lot of rain
(Lake Travis flooded that year) mine did the same thing
I don't know if there is a correlation with lots of rain
I didn't have one when we flooded before and don't have one now to determine
We lost the tree that shaded it and it started burning up Sad
Gardening is learning, learning, learning. That's the fun of them.

I don't have one, but my sister in Cypress, TX does. I shot her a question and she said her tree is also blooming now. So maybe it's a plant willing to bloom outside the spring season in the right conditions. Has yours never done this before?

I had a tulip magnolia when I lived in Austin but 'only' have a grandiflora magnolia here in Dallas. In the approx 10 yrs in Austin my tulip tree never bloomed in summer. These trees are very popular in Dallas. I saw many blooming in spring per usual. Don't see any blooming now and that's one thing that I would definitely notice. So I can't explain it but would advise you to do what you can to make sure it stays healthy. And remember that stranger things have happened. I think.

My sister in Cypress didn't think hers should have been blooming either Smiling . I gathered from her it hasn't done it before.

Ok. Here's a sidebar to this as it doesn't involve tulip trees, just out of season blooms. It occurred to me that my hellebores are still blooming. They start blooming here around Jan. depending on our variable TX 'winters'. But once the weather starts heating up the plants stop blooming. And yet despite record heat, and being ignored by me, these guys are still blooming. So maybe it's just one of those strange years.
