This tree is in the yard of a house in Coos Bay that my friend bought this year and she says it's really good...if it's good there, it should be good here...thanks....

The apple has been identified by a grower at the farmers' market in the same area the tree in question is growing in...Coos Bay...he also says it's a Gravenstein...thank you all.

I was thinking that but, knowing you thought it would be some new exotic. They are a very tasty apple, early season. They don't hold well so eat and cook in season.
No, it's in the yard of a friend's house...she just moved to Coos Bay 6 months ago and the house is circa 1925, so the tree has most likely been there awhile...an old standard. I'd never seen a Gravenstein that colorful......she was making Calvados Applesauce with them the other day and she has a couple of deer who regularly visit her yard for the windfalls.....
