The sun came out here for a few hours , so I moved the plants out from under the tarp and just noticed this going on ..

It's the Epc. Rene Marques ' Tyler' that Jim gave me.
I'm assuming this is not something I want going on.. Besides repotting , should it be soaked in something ... Like bleach Confused

Hm, I think I'd just take it out to the back 40 and hose it off thoroughly, then dust the roots with cinnamon before re-potting.

It might not be anything that will affect the orchid, but better to be safe. I had one that started up with something like that, but it disappeared as soon as the sun got at it, and the surface of the medium dried out.

Kind of strange. I have never seen webbing like that or if I did , I just never paid much attention. I have see spider mite webbing but nothing like that. If getting it dried and with some sun doesn't eliminate it, the Bayer 3 in 1 should.

It's some kind of mold or maybe even algae, I think. Pretty sure if we could see into the depths of all our pots of bark medium, there's lots of different stuff like that growing down inside the pots and baskets of our orchids. You just can't keep them sterile and it wouldn't be healthy if you did.

We had sun for most of the day today, so don't worry, Lindsey the sun will be back! And the heat too. Thumbs down

Elaine's advise is good. It needs to be washed and re-potted.

Now, I found something that really does need drastic action. Luckily it's just the one spot, so far.

All that rain was bound to carry a few fungi along with it, I guess. Breaking out the cinnamon and sharpening the cutting tools.

Done already. It's always tough to cut off a healthy looking leaf, but at least more of my plants have lots of leaves now, so not quite as hard.

I found another one with a brand-new lead that had turned black, that was a total Grumbling .

Here's a new one, anybody else have these sort of 'blisters' on the leaves of cattleyas? They are raised, turn brown, dry and split but they don't seem to do much damage and the leaves don't die. The blister does't go all the way through the leaf either. I have this randomly on one or two leaves on several plants. Second pic, those are not water droplets, they are the beginnings of the blisters.

I carefully opened one with sharp tweezers, and looked at it under my dinky microscope, and there is no sign of insects or other inhabitants.

I think it might be an edema, haven't you guys had a lot of rain recently? I googled edema on orchids and this came up.

I agree with Alice, this looks like edema. It is harmless to the orchid but isn't very aesthetic, sort of like sunburn patches.

Thanks, all! The orchids that have this are all under cover now, so they won't get overwatered any more, and can dry out well.

Yes, we had a lot of rain last week, and it has rained every day but one since then, so all the Catts are under cover now. but they all got a darned good soaking before I brought them in. Will keep them dry for a while and hope it goes away. Not pretty!

Discovered some scale on my Copper Queen today, too. Ick. Clean up and treatment under way.

I think you probably need to get rid of that Queen, Elaine. You don't want an outbreak of scale. My address is.............. Whistling

Nope, you can't have it back Ken. Big Grin I love it even though it does seem to be a scale magnet.
