But variety is indeed the spice of life. Do you really want your scrambled eggs to be the same each time you make them? Mashed potatoes? ETC. Gene

Hilarious! Hilarious! I agree. I don't make that many things. Hilarious! Nor do I have the kitchen cabinet space to store hundreds of jars. I don't use many pre-made spice mixes. Mostly, as I cook, I just mix stuff on the fly. In the summer I grow a variety of herbs on my deck. In winter, I use mostly dried. Usually it works out well.

Since I'm on a low sodium diet, I do use some Mrs. Dash products (Table mix, Italian, Southwestern, etc) when I'm in a hurry, and I find those pretty good.

Karen, I've tried those Mrs. Dash and I was not impressed. I think I took them and dumped them in the feed mixer and the SU fed it to the heifers. LOL

I tried Mrs Dash products years ago, and wasn't impressed. Mine went in the trash. I was hoping they had improved by now.

I like the southwest one, and the Italian one. Also a package of pot roast seasoning that's not bad. Most of the time though, I just use my own concoctions which consists of whatever I grab from the spice cabinet. I almost never use salt.

I'll have to try those, Karen. We are not adding any salt to anything now. It's been hard, but we're adjusting.

Here is something new to me that I just discovered. I'm still trying to perfect the details of making this delicious and healthy snack. It is the time and temp of baking that I'm working on. Roasted Chick Peas. Can of Chick Peas, drained and well rinsed. Shallow pan, olive oil. You can make them really crunchy, almost burnt or what I am working on - 1/2 crunchy, 1/2 chewy. You add your salt and spices after they are baked. No limit to the possibilities. Inexpensive and healthy. As I read about this I ran across stories of people eating the whole batch while standing at the stove. Anyone here already doing this? Gene

No. I've seen recipes for them and thought about it. I imagine they'd take on the taste of whatever you use to season them, kind of like roasted soy beans.

OK we need a side by side nutrition comparison 'tween soya beans and chick peas. Do you remember the time and temp you used? Gene

Dried chick peas ...GREAT ....I love them.

Too many will turn your bowel's innards to cement.

We italians filled our pockets with those as kids..big families = need cheap filling snacks

Gene..you want healthy snack ..can you take a wee bit dietary salt?

Fix edamame...you can buy frozen..individual seasoned or plain frozen in bag.

With your seasonings...sky's the limit.

Yes, I like edamame too. My husband wouldn't eat it if he was starving to death, so I don't make it for myself that often.

How did you cook dried chick peas Rosie? Is there some classic Italian way for roasted snacks? Or are you talking using in soups, etc?

This talk of chick peas motivated me to make some tonight. We did a little Christmas decorating on this dark, dreary, nasty day, so looking for an easy dinner. As a side I made this:
Sauteed a whole onion, sliced thin, in olive oil until it was caramelized and sweet and soft. Added sliced sweet red pepper and 4 small cloves of garlic. Added a can of drained, rinsed chick peas, southwest seasoning, and stirred until hot. It got a Thumbs up

There's a lot of research supporting the use of legumes to stabilize blood sugar in diabetics. I'm going to experiment on my husband. Hilarious! Poor guy, I feel so bad for him. He works really hard, eats a balanced diet, exercises every day, takes 3 insulin shots a day, does everything right. But his glucose is always to high or too low and he stays very thin. He can't gain a pound for anything.

I tell him every day that I wish I could donate about 30 lbs to him. Hilarious!

Sorry he is too thin I know he would like more pounds

But in a way glad he is thin tho too..
Soooo much research ( mice ) shows mice at point of starvation live long and healthy...one little weeeee step over into more starvation status they die.😳😳😳..but if they are kept on the edge..,they are supermice.

Yes, your chickpea meal sounds GREAT

We did not cook. We used as a snack. Back in the day..they were sold out of huge barrels ... hard as rocks. We kids would fill our pockets in the morning and snack all day...very healthy dried ..plain...no cook
