I have that one also. It is such a small, sweet little semp. Yours look like they are doing really well. Were they from the Mountain Crest co-op?

Just took this photo today. My S. pumilum f/ Adyl Su is really doing well. All the rain we had last month and now freezing temps have not harmed this new plant.

I had two bolt from the co op. One was pittoni, but I never got around to removing the flower stalk and there are now three little babies in the middle of all the dead stuff. Hopefully they can make it through the wet.

They will make it through the winter and reward you with many more come spring time Sherri.
Some of my pittonii bolted also, but a few made it and are doing well. I'll have to get a new photo of them this week.

Lynn, I have been reading your older posts and have a question. What do you mean when you say Species Semps? Are these plant families that have not been Hibridized? How do you know if a plant is a "species" type?

Semepervivum pittonii is a species. Notice that the name is in all lower case letters.
Species are never put in apostrophs.
Sempervivum 'Lentezon' is a hybrid. Notice the name starts with an upper case letter and the name is in apostrophes, that denotes it is a hybrid.

Sempervivum arachnoideum f/Gorges DeDalis =
Genus is Sempervivum
species is arachnoideum
f/Gorges DeDalis mean it is an arachnoideum from Gorges DeDalis.

Was wondering if any of you have tried the Caucasian/ Turkish species of semps and have had luck growing them. Am a bit worried because our winters are WET here in OR (that's an understatement!!) and was going to grow those in pots and put them under cover if that's the only way to grow them. S. eythraeum and S. ciliosum do fine for me. These of course are Balkan species but i've heard they can be moisture sensitive. I do mulch with fine gravel around most of the semps so that might be helping too.

Anyway, I would love opinions on this!

Kevin, Perhaps you could offer some names representative of the group you are asking about. I don't know much about which ones come from where and think many members here would be in the same situation. I have been slowly building my collection of species types, but our climate here is much cooler than OR.

Kevin, I am no expert and have only a few weeks experience but in May I purchased a beautiful Rosularia muratdaghensis called a Turkish Rock Rose from Murat Dag in Turkey.. Purchased at Timberline Nursery in Arvada CO
Don't know if this is what you are asking about or not, but I have had a challenge with this plant.

May 30th Healthy .................... June 7th after hail and move to full sun ....... july after replanting in rock garden

I am hoping it will grow agin in the dappled shade of the rock garden but it just crumbled to pieces after all the abuse of hail and intense heat.

Am hoping the rock garden and milder temps will be better for it.
