Wayyy off topic but what is the best term or phrase for a spring ephemeral like dafs, tulips, ... or maybe summer ephemeral like some Allium. Should this be a preset choice?

oops, thought I was posting this in an existing thread.

You had posted this under a thread about something else. A new question should make a new thread so we keep things organized.

I think "bulb" is the right category for the plant types you mentioned.

Thanks Dave, is this somehow automated? Amazing. Is that part of an algorithm?

What I'm getting at is some bulbs have short lived leaves while others, like Crocosmia, have leaves that enhance the garden throughout the growing seasons. I don't know the comparative numbers but wouldn't that be a useful data choice under Leaves?

It's not automated. A moderator of a forum can split a post off from one thread into its own new thread.

Your short-lived leaves information would indeed be useful. We have an "Other" field under Leaves where you can type whatever you wish. We can either use that for this, or I can add another checkbox for this information. If we did the latter would "Spring ephemeral" under "Leaves" be clear enough?

The issue I see is that "Spring ephemeral" refers to all aerial parts, not just leaves. So it's more of a "habit" or "life cycle" (not sure which)

Once again beyond my pay grade. I don't know the best terms and I hadn't NOTICED/REMEMBERED -other-., which could work. You guys tell me what to do and I'm off to the races.

I'll add Ephemeral under Leaves and we'll use that for now. If anybody in the future gets really picky about it, we can change it.
