Yeah it was sad, as was when she had passed away. She had 100's and 100's of irises and driving by in Spring and seeing them all in bloom is what led me to my love of them. She would walk around with you and ask you which ones you like. Then one day you would come home to a surprise bag of rhizomes on your doorstep. Their adult children live their now and there isn't a plant in site. Maybe I'll ask them if they would like some of the ones she gave me.

It is odd but I don't think that some children have that sentimental attachment that I have for plants. It might not mean much to them and then again it wouldn't hurt to ask. I grow several plants from friends and family that have passed on but I still have a piece of their perennial.

Sad that someone took them all, but wonderful that you still have some of hers. So not all lost after all.

I think that would be a great thing to do -- ask the kids if they'd like to have some of their folks' Irises back. Thumbs up

Beautiful story, Rob...and sad too.
Maybe a gift of some irises would prompt them to try a few plants in that garden of theirs? It makes me so sad when new owners cannot see the value of a beautiful garden and just rip out everything. It just happened to a garden down the street from here, which also happens to be where I got my blue NoIDs from the previous owner a few years back. Now there is nothing left, not even the lawn and they are planning to pave it all with grey concrete slabs... Makes me want to Crying
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!

I just wanted say a big thank you to everyone who sent boxes this year. Most everything seems to be growing really well heading into fall and winter. All of you are wonderful and very generous! I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

Generally, Alan, at "digging time", there are lots of offers for iris "for postage".

I did recieve a letter.....with pictures!....from someone I sent iris to this year, thanking me....again!....for the plants, and letting me know "how they were doing"! It's things like that that help to off set the times you get "stiffed" for postage !

Stiffed for postage? Sounds like there should be a wall of shame (thread of shame?) like they have at the mom & pop stores with names of people who write checks that bounce.
