Awesome, Kate... looking at that picture I wondered if you had a business of some sort. I wonder what those beds look like close up. Pretty sweet, I'd wager.

Thanks for all the kind words. Yes, most definitely need to get more current photos. I never have the bench space to pot them up so I just dig for people when they decide which ones they want. Bench space is reserved for the physically larger plants; I have over 800 varieties of things in the ground on a very tightly planted half acre and spend weeks in April through June digging and potting for the benches. Terri next year your 'Tederheid' will be a nice large colony, all filled in. It is a very good grower.
And your 'Irazu' is wonderful. I love that little semp.

Did you sprinkle lots of little starts around and let them fill in or is this a few massively prolific plants?
I planted a few and waited. Here's another sequence. There was a black locust tree that became hazardous and was removed (except for the trunk that became a table). So, originally these plants had a lot of high shade and they spread nicely. The tree was removed a year ago - I wish I'd done it 20 years ago. A whole other story, but now I don't have to cover the beds to keep tree debris out.
And one where they have begun to colonize the crevices in the tree bark:

As you can see, I had to put a stepping stone in to be able to get to the table part of the remaining tree bits so as not to step on the madly growing semps.

I will try to take a photo of my colony tonight. What is special about my colony is that it has been in my family for at least 5 generations now- maybe even longer. No idea what variety they are - will post a photo later and perhaps someone will tell me.
