Can anyone tell me what the name of this hosta is? It is in bloom now in Mid-August, medium to dark green with a thin white margin that does not stop at the leaf but goes all the way down the petiole. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

There are so many look alike hostas and people let them drop seeds to create seedlings (which have no identity), it can be difficult to ID without choosing from a list you know you have.

That being said, my guess would be Ginko Craig. It is fairly accessible and has even been at big box stores. Verify the plant height, leaf size, count the veins in the leaf, color of bloom, fragrance. See site below.

I have a bit over 200 Hostas and this one has moved with me from my last garden. I didn't keep records of the ones I purchased back then but now I'm obsessed with wanting to know each name. It seems to grow loosely never forming a clump. My Hostas growing in the woodland garden are throwing new baby plants around but before I lived in a part shady city garden and I never had any volunteer seedlings. You are welcome. Wow, 200, very nice. I know what you mean about being obsessed with IDS. Luckily I started a garden spreadsheet when I first moved into my house. It has species, variety, bloom color, date purchased, where purchased, comments, Price and location planted, etc. My problems with a few was raccoons batted around name tags or I raked them away. It took some investigation, but I had names and which bed.

Treehugger, it might be that this Hosta is very immature, and it will show its identifiable characteristics in another two seasons.

I also have a lot more than 500 cultivars, with just under 300 on my plant list. These do not include my own development of mutations, and an endless amount of volunteer seedlings, which some have become beautiful adults.

I looked up a couple of varieties that I thought it might be, but no luck. It's even possible that it's a new, wild variety that magically appeared in your yard. Every now and then, I see and odd one in my yard that are crosses between what I have and my neighbor's wild patch.

Yes it could be some cross. I have no idea but it is an older Hosta. I NEED help with my addiction. It could be worse I suppose I could be saving my money for my children for when I die. NAH! I'd rather spend it now. Anyway I do keep a list of my plants and where I keep them in the garden. My memory isn't what it use to be so I carry my list with me all the time. Now looking again, maybe Ginko Craig leaves are too wavy to match your picture which has really straight edge. I've seen pictures on Web both ways.

I'm thinking of calling it Ginko Craig Jr.
