Wow, you just did it! One moment it was on the left, then it was on the right. I have to admit, even though it didn't bother me on the left, I do think it is better on the right.

I like it on the right (even though it didn't effect me on the left). It looks more aesthetically pleasing over there on the far right.
Things go in order now. (Favorite) (Acorn Tip) (Thumbs up) (I'm reporting you) Hilarious!

Still taking a giant step backward regarding this feature...Just checked the 'shunned' member's posts and was not offended in the least. ??

Deb, there were lots of fine posts but things went further back and on numerous occasions. There are all the other forums to play in, just not this one. Thumbs up

How far back are we going with this reporting feature? Will this be retroactive from day one and not just from the time the two new features were put in place?

I'm assuming that they were reported on a recent post, however, when viewing/reviewing the authenticity it was decided upon by the admins that it was actually warranted and valid, due to that users history/previous posts.

I don't think you have to worry about them scanning through your old posts greene Hilarious!

dave said: After the system automatically blocked that member from that forum, I went in and took a look for myself. From my skimming of the thread, the posts were off topic for the irises forum, argumentative and inflammatory. I do not disagree with what happened. In fact, I feel like the system is working exactly as it should.

I couldn't agree more! It seemed this member deliberately provoked and made irrelevant comments over many, many posts. I applaud the system and the necessary action. The member lacked respect for others and self-control!

I am sure the "Report This Post" button has been in the works for awhile. This user may just have been the straw to implement it.

Remember, it is the number of complaints from "different users" rather than multiple complaints from one user.

I am pretty much an exclusive "Iris Forum" guy, and this person was the first DF (Disruptive Force) since Dave & Trish created ATP ( 6 1/2 years ago ); and maybe even into the "Cubits" years as well. I had yet to complain, but I was for sure headed there. I had already composed two "emails" and was sitting on them (like anything; I write a rough draft first and let it "air out" as I do myself to get perspective). One was to the user and the other to Dave/Trish/ or maybe to my forum moderators first and then to Dave/Trish. Actions over took my communications and they were not sent. I doubt I would have had any positive impact on the poster.

Oh well.

The sad thing is, when she was on topic, it was ok and everything was good.

As a member of the Iris forum who was *hip-deep* in the issue with the banned member -- I would just like to let everyone know that even if you go to the Iris forum and read her posts, you will not get to see the ones that were the most upsetting. When members began to get really tired of her attitude -- and I was probably the most outspoken -- she went back and altered her posts, and entirely deleted some of them. She was trying to cover her tracks. If you weren't *there* when all of this was going on, then it could seem that our decision was harsh. It wasn't. Our wonderful forums, that we've enjoyed for years, began to feel dark and uncomfortable. Additionally -- I was surprised to read that there were "many" reports. None of us knew that any of the others were reporting her. So -- the system worked exactly as it should have.

And for what it's worth -- when someone disturbs a forum as much and as often and for as long as this person did -- I do not think there is anything wrong with the announcement that they have been banned. I felt such relief when I read the notice. I am assuming, though, that that announcement is only made on the forums where the problems were -- and is not announced site-wide?

Great big heartfelt thanks to you Dave. It was a perfect solution to a very difficult situation. And I think the new placement of the report icon is much better. Thumbs up

Thank you for moving the report button to the right. And, while sad that the iris forum needed the report system, I do appreciate that there was a way for the situation to be solved.

Yes -- but now I'm kind of picturing it being "announced" on the sky, like in The Hunger Games... Smiling

I agree with you, Greg. Some posts were really good. But I dislike conflict and, even with skipping reading the other posts, it didn't take long for me to just avoid most of the Forum threads altogether. Shrug!

Edited to add: I am glad the process has been changed so there isn't a public notice. Smiling

Just as a reminder... we can also now "ignore" a member's posts and not see them at all, without anyone else knowing about it (see Dave's original post in this thread).

For those outside our forum who are curious - the announcement appeared in only one thread of the forum. It wasn't broadcast. The thread where it was posted was the one that, I believe, had the most recent posts that people reported. I am of mixed mind about announcing the ban. It is embarrassing to the person banned, but it is also the only way the forum members knew that there would be no further posts. Honestly, I felt relief when I saw the announcement because I knew I didn't have to dread reading certain threads anymore. Because of that I think the people who reported the posts should be notified in some way, and then they can let other forum members know as they see fit.

I like the ignore better! I suppose there is always some person that just rubs us the wrong way, while that person may not annoy others. I think this is a great solution. I'm still a bit skeptical about the report button though. There are some folks that tend to take umbrage very easily...especially if your opinion differs from theirs. I can see the button being abused.
