I've seen some soybean fields that after harvesting they're now baling the remains up in those big round bales. How come? Is it useful for feed? They used to just plow it under.

They are baling all sorts of "forage" (desiccated corn stalks, rice straw, etc.) around here and calling it hay since the drought almost eliminated any hay crop except from a few irrigated meadows. Perhaps it is worth more to sell for cattle feed than to plow under for fertilizer?

Shrug! I can't see it being needed around here. Farmers got a good 3, some even got 4 cuts of hay this year...it's even being left rotting in the fields in some cases. Maybe they're going to SELL it as fertilizer?
