Spodoptera ornithogalli (yellowstriped armyworm) is the evil spawn of Satan!!!
I had 4 2-gal containers all with about 1/2-3/4-inch sprouts of kale. The yellowstriped armyworm caterpillars ate every bit of them within about 2 days
They also got all of my new cherry tomato sprouts and I found one hammering a pepper plant today.
ARRGGHHHHHH!!!!
Always looking for interesting plants for pollinators and food! Bonus points for highly, and pleasantly scented plants.

I usually leave them alone, as long as they're eating the weeds... Birds gotta eat too...
Very similar but they are variable. Two photos below were taken within 3 days of each other. Decimated all four pots of kale and several pepper plants. The birds aren't doing their jobs. I took over.
