Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima)
aka as 'Stink Tree'

It was probably bird-sown. It looks like Alianthus altissima It is considered to be invasive and the roots can be destructive to sewer lines and structures.

I wasnt sure if i had planted this but i have planted so much over the last two years that i sometimes forget... but i dont think i did plant this one so i will definitely be digging it up and relocating to the woods... thank you again! Oh, don't relocate it ... get rid of it; it's invasive in your neck of the woods too!

Wow..the more i read the nastier these things sound.. My goodness!! Suckers and sprouts... yikes!

But ... little ones will end up sprouting up all over the neighborhood and you will undoubtedly find them again in your yard at some point in the near future. They seem to appear overnight!

Yes, the problem with this tree is that it displaces natives at an alarming rate. It got such a great start in people's gardens because it is attractive. Cultivating one would be irresponsible, and in your area, would be on par with cultivating a popcorn tree in the south.

I was walking by my front yard on my way to the pool filter and garden last night and saw the tree.. it was taunting me, i swear.. so i went over and tore it out and reveled in my glory as it lie there dead. YAH!!

Best id is if you look under the leaf and there are two little raised dots on either side of the base.

It is a highly invasive plant that will take over your property when it seeds. The seeds are very pretty because of their yellow color and maple seed like form. But they have a stinky aroma and their seeds will take and if you cut without treatment it will sprout very readily from the roots.

A place I worked at had such a problem with it, eventually they had to go with either girdling and spray, or painting their cut-stumps. Even then it is a continual monitoring, knocking off the suckers afterwards.

Sumac is a native look alike, but it is also very clonal, though the birds seem to love the fruit.
