OK, when I say 1/2 it may be figuratively not literally. 2nd area. North of porch, east of house. Again, less deer and wind. Big (if I had to do it over I'd have 2 smaller tarps instead of one big one) white tarp to keep the rain away. I admit a challenge to erect each Spring. Other problem with one big tarp is it acts like a sail in high winds, lifting, dropping the support poles. Here I thought rain would be my worst enemy. No, it is wind followed by rain. Many a night I am out there realigning things. Anyone want to volunteer to be here and help me get them all back inside next month? Gene

I'd like to have less in this next month. Everyone please go to plant and seed trading. I have 3 posts there. Gene

Hi Gene,

That's an impressive collection. Do they all have names? I have an ulterior motive for that question... Smiling

I noticed one of my NoIDs in there someplace. Do you know what it is?

Are you referring to the big vine? Cissus (grape) , I'd have to look at my notes for the exact name. A desert plant from a mountain in Mexico, I believe. Gene

I didn't climb a mountain in Mexico to get it - I can't remember where I did get it but I would have remembered mountain climbing.

Cissus tuberosa?

Yes, Cissus Tuberosa. A caudiciform plant. This one flowered last winter. The smallest, most insignificant flowers I have ever seen. Gene

Really? I have never seen flowers on mine and I've had it for years. Maybe I missed them.

Another thing I have read about this plant that seems to make sense, but something I have not done so far: put it too small of a pot and the swollen base will be bigger. Gene

I haven't repotted mine for about 15 years. Does that count? Smiling

I just cut off 2 pieces, each a foot long of the vines. Anyone tried this? Will they root? Right now rooting gel in a jar of water. Gene

I think that the shorter the vines, the higher the success rate (although, this may prove more true for houseplants like Pothos). I think it's because it has less "mass" to root and keep alive at the same time while rooting. Confused

You are correct in general. Trim off most extra leaves of any cutting to give it a better chance of survival. But, I am asking about this very unusual plant. Gene

Oh, in that case, my apology. It's not one I've seen here, let alone grown, so I do not have any experience to add. Sad
