When there grown their white , clean , no "bad places " like fruit They look like bread inside ,spongy ,sort of ,
As long their clean their safe to eat ,

The left side edge looks like it would be . Where their is no dicoloration thay are safe ,

No , not really a great one in the photo ,
View it like a potato or a fruit , should be clean and true , no spots , dots . or chews ..

I love mushrooms and get quite a few puffballs in the yard....might just have to try some. But first I'll put a neighbor on the alert just in case since I'm the old widda lady in the woods now Whistling Heaven forbid that my son (5mins. away) should check on Mom unless HE needs something Glare

Last I made from puffball , Boiled them down , Took four that size to make just under a quart of sauce . ??? Added cinnamon for cinnamon mushroom sauce Toast and Mushroom gravy, Roast with mushroom gravy ,, on , and on ,, Smiling

There is a connection point at the ground . but their like brittle hair , come loose as easy anything , Puffballs Have No Noticable Stem ... Seem to grow Right from the ground

I have seen the tiny ones About Quarter size growing among my flowers , Saw a Full ring of some big Brown flat topped Mushrooms a few days ago growing in a field ,,
I have seen the Flying Angel in a full Ring around here before also ,, Deadly Sianide Flat topped white Mushroom ith Blue or discolorated rings on the Flat tops .. ..
Have seen the Morels around here before also , only rarely ..
