Hello,
I was hoping that you could share some landscape pictures of your iris gardens/beds. We post mostly the picture of the bloom.

I need ideas on how to layout a new bed out and what might be some good companion plants. I have some of mine now with daylilies but they are not liking the extra water that dls need so I will be removing the majority. I do like to see some Spring color in the drifts. Hurray!
Thanks,
Teresa

I have a few I can share. It IS great to see what others are doing. It really does help our future plantings.

This bed was new last year.

Teresa,
For what it's worth: We stick them anywhere. Bear in mind I'm way out in the countryside in a semi-isolated farming area. Shown here in a mix: Celebration Song, Hello Darkness, (upper left) I. Pallida (upper right) & English Charm (lower right). All planted around either Sarah Bernhardt or Edulis Superba Peony. (I've lost track which.) Second picture is I. Pallida planted at the side of an out-dated cast iron well. Third picture: Monsignor in a mixed bed of perennials including chives and daylilies.

The next picture below is an 'over-flow' row of SDB's out in a vegetable garden. The second photo is near the garage with mixed perennials & Japanese Maple. I tore part of the fencing out this year due to rot. The third picture is in the same bed showing Tweety Bird, Raspberry Jam & Wish Upon A Star.

In the next photo we have Honorabile growing wherever it wants in a semi-shaded location along with ferns and bleeding hearts. The middle photo is of Joe Ghio's Olympiad in a mass planting of mixed TB's. These require a lot of maintenance every second year. The third picture below shows Happenstance & Gypsy Romance in a mixed perennial setting. Still working on some of these plantings- a never ending job!

I am so jealous of all those beautiful clumps Leon! I have yet to get my TB's to grown and bloom in large mass like that. Just beautiful!

Thanks Leslie!
It's been a lifetime labor of love! And now that I am into my senior years I am starting to feel it. I can't keep up like I used to. But I'll go on if time permits as long as possible! Smiling

All nice pictures. Leon, on that second set of three, the second picture near the garage, is that iris Knock Em Dead? It very a very nice iris. I don't really have any pictures of beds that I haven't posted a jillion times before, so I'll just enjoy yours. Smiling

Thanks for asking that that one was Tom. I meant to ask, but I got lost in the moment and forgot. The tag is blurry , but it looks like it says "Different World". It's beautiful and has been added to the never ending want list.

Sorry guys & gals I was out mowing, and mowing and mowing! It's never ending with all this rain.
Tom that's Different World from the late Rick Ernst. Its related to Knock Em Dead, Competitive Edge and I think maybe even Afternoon Delight. He had a lot of intros using that blood line. All of them nice. Sad we lost him at such an early time in his career.

I checked out the name on the label for Different World too. It's beautiful.
There is a thread called "What type of property do you have to plant Iris" from a few months back with some great photos of people's gardens.

I should have known I wasn't Knock Em Dead, I meant Competitive Edge. I have both of those. I agree, Ernst had some very nice ones, my favorite of his is Finishing School, which I lost last year. I have to replace it for sure. I do have Dandy Candy which is a lot like it.

Celia, I think I see a little Ice Plant that I just got this year in your pictures..

Beautiful clumps Leon!

Thank-you Lilli for showing the progression of your garden through the season... I wish we could grow some of those bulbs here.. We're a little warm for some of them, and some the gophers treat as candy... Glare

I've probably posted these at one time or another...

I am constantly adding irises to my garden beds, but here are some photos from previous years. I'll take better shots this bloom season.

The view from my second storey and looking across the garden. I used to have a row of proteas along the blank fence (the one in my avatar) but most of them died so I have replaced them with aggies and red hot pokers since that photo was taken.
