Just wanted to let all the folks adding new entries & proposing the details to not take it personally when something initially gets declined.

There are good reasons, either the entry already exists or many of the details are incorrect. Some of these plant specific databases came over from Cubits where the owners already had details in place the way they envisioned them, they take great pride in the database, as they should and Dave has been gracious enough to allow those details to remain and even expanded upon them when he transferred them over here. We all want this database to be the place to go for all folks searching for images and info, we want it to eventually surpass everything else out there, in terms of details and features, and most notably for the search function! Thumbs up

While declines don't happen that often, moderators try to tactfully explain why a proposal was declined with detailed reasons, perhaps also citing examples, referrals or links so that it becomes a learning process. Sometimes a moderator links one of the completed existing entries to see what kind of details are needed, that way a contributor can now refer to that for the useful details needed for any future entries.

With that in mind, as everyone contributes to the database, please allow it to be a learning process for all of us, something exciting to be on the ground floor for and not something negative to complain about. Just keep positive, and ask questions if there is something that you don't understand rather than take it out on the moderator. Smiling
Don't take it personally, don't get too serious about it, have fun creating and contributing to this monstrous project, then we all can be proud of the hard work everyone has put into it! Big Grin

Sue: Well said! I won't in any way be insulted or hurt if something I enter in the database is declined, because I know there would be a good reason for it. We all want this to be the best and most accurate database on the internet! I really appreciate your knowledge, as well as that of the other Moderators and those who are Master Gardeners ... helping us all become more educated about All Things Plants!

Thumbs up Thanks to everyone who's entered photo's, data, comments etc., and especially to our great moderators for taking time out of their busy lives to help this database grow! Thumbs up

Thank you, Lin. Your gracious acceptance of corrections is highly appreciated. Most people are gracious about it, but there are a few that want to engage in tree-mail wars when their proposals are declined or corrected.

Zuzu: I always want to be corrected when I've made an error, it's the only way I'm going to learn ... and I have to admit, I'm one that sometimes has to be corrected more than once because my memory isn't what it used to be. Big Grin

Oh, boy, do I ever know exactly what you mean, Lin. I can't believe how many mistakes I repeatedly make. I hope I don't have to start writing myself post-its. "Make sure the water's in the coffee pot before you turn it on." "Don't put a vase of flowers where you know the cats will knock it over." "Stop trying to pull weeds while you're standing on the other end of them." Big Grin

Well said Sue, Zuzu and Lin. Learning is such fun and shouldn't be entered into with a negative outlook. There isn't a person alive that doesn't make mistakes. I learn new things here on a daily basis and am so thankful for this community of caring, helpful people. Thumbs up

Gingin, Rolling on the floor laughing

Oh, and how could I forget? "Don't leave your eggs to hard-boil until all the water's gone and the eggs explode." I'm embarrassed to say I've done that numerous times. There's always something that takes me away from the kitchen for long periods of time.

I am glad you are all so understanding! Without facial expressions to convey the meaning behind written words, so many people take things completely wrong and decide to get their feeling hurt, or worse, start a verbal war of words and then both sides get upset. Not worth it.
If I personally took offense every time Zuzu corrected my grammar and spelling, I'd be a basket case. Hilarious! Instead, I welcome it, learn from it and beg her to be my teacher/spellchecker before I turn in my work (aka long thread posts) Big Grin Of course, it's my poor memory (or too fast typing) that I can then blame when I repeat the same mistakes over and over. Rolling my eyes.
