I am quite impressed with PURPLE RIOT. I think I have decided to trot out some frozen pollen and give it a try.

Glen, on my monitor it looks deep red, not a hint of purple. Shrug!

You know, I think you both are right about the colour.

Lovely PR looks burgundy to me. A rich slightly brownish red rather than bluish red, but not too brown. I think bloom substance is one of the most desirable traits, so for me it is a beauty. My cheapie burgundy NOID might turn out OK with it's very contrasting gold edge, but the colour washes off. Still it is the best bloom I have had this season being the only one.

Yesterday I dug out 2 plants that I expect to identify when they bloom. I planted a few there b4 I moved here but when the thieves struck I moved some and lost track of ids. One I just was in the middle of a ''Seafoam'' rose. Supposed to be a climber but it is all over the ground. Looks fab when in flower but a thorny thing. ''Laguna'' is another upright climber the thieves didn't dig out. Massive growth and big thorns. I threatened to cut it out as it hadn't flowered. As happens, it heard and put out lots of fragrant flowers. The other daylily I dug was being chomped by wallabies. My best place for planting daylilies is near the road, but after the thefts I will be removing blooms as soon as I identify them. Gardeners have to be stubborn types eh?

Ann. It happened several times before I moved in here. I had been planting stuff to get it established while the house was being built. When we got to look inside and walked on the back balcony I noticed the great view of my ''garden'' down the slope. in August, our mild winter, daffodils, roses, daylilies and gerberas were blooming. The lots of it vanished. It would have taken them ages as the ground is clay even though I had hauled gypsum and compost and dug it well.

Then it was hot and dry for months. Over Christmas it rained and the builders weren't around although I was. They dug out roses in the middle of our hot summer and almost everything left. I chopped off Any things remaining I sawed off at almost ground level and left signs saying they would be prosecuted when I caught them. And I went there twice a day. It stopped but spooked me for a long time. So demoralised I let weeds take over a big area. That was bad because of the very dangerous snakes here.

But 3 yrs later its almost under control again. Since I am now retired I am here almost always. As long as nothing harms our dogs or cats I can't complain.

Deryll, the parts I was fortunate enough to see (in 1994) were worth the trip for sure and certain. Big Grin Smiling

What lowlifes!!!! I can't even imagine how angry you must have been. Disbelief, anger, disappointment, disillusionment, heartbreak. There are words for these people that I am not allowed to type on our kind website. The brazen & deliberate thievery --- shocking! They need a good lashing or worse.
I am so sorry this happened to you. I'm sure it did spook you as if you had been personally violated which is what really did happen. That kind of thing can worm into your mind and make you crazy.
I'm glad you sawed things off & left signs. Good for you. Thumbs up

Flowering for the first time in my garden: CROWNING FIRE. I am looking for a nice red bloom. I hope this is a good one. This bloom got hooked up but this may have been because it was shy.

That's a very striking red daylily, Glen, and I hope it turns into a good one for you. Thanks for putting me onto the pictures of both your cats, they are wonderful. I did have to laugh, because I know that look when they are doing something they shouldn't--it's like Tough Bananas, it's too late, you can't do a thing about it! Hilarious!

Thank you!

This flowered for the first time ever in my garden this morning. SPINEFELD.
This is quite a nice looking bloom. I am curious as to why it has so few child cultivars.
