Glen - Wow! Lovely blooms. I know they must really put a big smile on your face to see them for the very first time. Green Grin!

I have grown some seedlings from Spinefeld as a parent. They didn't resemble Spinefeld that much, but did show some teeth. I have no idea why there are so few children of that plant. Perhaps because it is a newer cultivar (2012)?

You may be correct Becky. I forgot I had obtained a series of fairly recent cultivars. Yes, the blooms have me smiling. I am so hopeful of a blooming bumper season. There are buds popping up everywhere.

I will do rust scores on the new ones after they have done a bit of a run, too. I am a bit puzzled at the moment. Some of my regular fairly rust resistant ones such as King Lamoni, Old Tangiers and Milanese Mango went through a bad period of rust this autumn. I have had them for decades and I was quite flabbergasted. They are starting to look okay again. I am suspicious I might have got a new strain through.

Sharon, those lovely, delicious pawpaws you saw in the photo got eaten by flying-foxes last night. I had thought they would be okay because the bats only pick up the smell of fairly ripe fruit. So today I put up some protection. I haven't the faintest whether or not it will work.

18 yr old in my subtropical garden!
Beauties Glen. I am envious and nervously watching lots of little scapes ascend from lots of plants. Afraid I will bump and break as I did a big red rose I just picked.

just planted a bamboo and a tree fern amid some wattles so they will make shade for some dark daylilies. The tree fern just came up next to the house slab and I have potted it on. So 2 less pots to water this summer. Ground was very dry so much mulching after I let the weeds come up. We have had a few days of showers and rain and very mild temps. and so humid the rust gallops along until I rip off leaves. Reminded me of before the monsoon in Delhi. But only for a few hours a day fortunately. 'Maybe my past leaf ripping accounts for why some bad rusters don't look bad while others are dusted with the dreaded orange.

I just got 2 truck loads of free fill from a pool mob. My daughter was horrified. More jobs! One lot is actually black sandy soil. When I use it will cover it to stop weeds. The other is clay and rock which can go in a big depression which currently breeds cane toads. When it is nearly filled I will plant out some Lousiana Irises which are flowering here now. And some daylilies, as I hope the wallabies won't come up that far.

Glen-- the eyezone on Retro Afternoon is so striking! Is yours the papaw that is related to a papaya? I was thinking if you had a blender then maybe daiquiris could be on the menu? Many blessings for a safe month!

Lol. Yes, they are papaya. Australians call them pawpaw for some reason. I think it is a corruption of 'papaya.'

That is so funny. An eyeball!! I took the photo through the fly screen. I haven't been able to get a good photo yet. The Blue-faced Honeyeaters are so cheeky and alert.
