How exciting! It sure helps being in zone 8a. I remember my first order from Maryotts, and the same thing happened - they sent up scapes immediately - do they have some magic potion? 2 of the ones they sent to me did die - one was reportedly one that does not do well in the north and it was a bonus so not sure why they sent me that one and the other one was Bluegrass Memories. I am trying that one again and planted it in a different spot - hopefully it survives this winter - if not, I will give up. Hopefully, this time, they will send me dormants or ones known to be zone 5 hardy Smiling

I just started growing daylilies this spring (my new neighborhood has tons of rabbits, and I was looking for rabbit resistant plants). I had no idea the variety and beauty of modern daylilies! Now I have 14 or so cultivators already and can't stop adding them Big Grin
I am in zone 4b and was going to place an order with Maryotts in the spring, however with them closing down I hurried and placed an order for 8 new plants this week.
I'm a little worried about planting outdoors in late September in Minnesota. Should I try to plant them and mulch them well, or would it be better to over winter them in pots in our house, and plant outdoors in the spring? Any opinions?

Welcome! zepher to the daylily addiction! You have reached a point of no return! Before you know it, your number will be in the 100's and will frantically look for space to expand your daylily beds. Hilarious! Hilarious! I am relatively new at this but zone 4 is pretty cold. Since you are buying from Maryotts and they are located in CA, the plants you get may not be accustomed to the cold yet. If I were you, I would plant them in pots and keep them sheltered from freezing. I am in zone 6 but just to be safe, I will be mulching the newly planted daylilies heavily in December.

Maryott send fewer bonuses this time. But the bonuses I got were those I had requested and had 3-5 fans, so I'm a happy camper. My bonus of Private Reserve is putting up a scape on one fan. I'm going to let just one flower bloom before I cut off the scape. I can't resist getting a look at it.

Barbalee - New plants need to put their energy into building roots, especially this time of year. New plants that you let bloom now will likely not perform well next season.

I got my last Maryott's order today...Blaze On and Happy Happy. He sent Barbara Mandrell and Cosmic Kaleidoscope as bonus plants. Both were on my bonus list. I think I'm finally done. I will miss ordering from Bill.

I please my first order with Maryotts earlier this month and they arrived early last week. Gorgeous plants

Here is the list of what I ordered:
Golden Child
Jump Up and Kiss Me
Keep on Dreaming
Kaanapali Coast
Lava Flow
Raspberries in Cream
Rock my World
Spacecoast Better Late
Spacecoast Tiger Tail Tango
Strikingly Dramatic
Received Tamaso Albinoni as a special gift; Spacecoast Butterfly Effect, Billy the Kid, Bogata, and Mexican Fiesta as bonuses. I guess I really should have focused more on getting some of the DLs that they had actually hybridized, but when I get to looking at all of them it gets overwhelming and I had to pare the list down numerous times Rolling my eyes.

Well, I couldn't resist and I went back and ordered a few more from Maryotts. But, this time, I made sure that I focused on plants they actually hybridized themselves - that way I have a few of their treasures in my gardens. My husband doesn't know it yet, but he just bought my bday present. Rolling my eyes. Rolling on the floor laughing

I have a bunch of scapes coming up from Maryott daylilies that were planted a few weeks ago. Do you think they will make it to bloom? There is no frost forecast for the next 10 days.

Karen - I hope you get to see at least one bloom on each!

I now have 3 of the cultivars that I ordered producing at least 1 scape:
Thomas Tew
Power Surge
Walter Kennedy (has produced 2 scapes)

I would be totally stoked to see the other 2 cultivars, that I received, bloom as well - Cosmic Kaleidoscope and Spacecoast Color Scheme. And you know what .... I bet I do! I had blooms in December from my order last Fall. This sincerely makes me smile!!! Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Diana - We have had mild Winters here in Florida for quite some time. We do have a history of having some very cold Winters, but not in quite a few years.

Our biggest weather concern is Hurricanes. Of which, there is one out there right now that may be a possible threat to the USA and it could skim along the eastern coast of Florida (where I live). Sad

This bloom is from my Maryott's order on September 6th. I thought it was Precious Stones, but it turned out to be Spanish Fiesta. Not sure if it was mislabeled or I mixed them up. In any case it's a nice big bloom. Click on the pics to see how really nice they are.
