Oh my goodness, how cute is that! My daughter had a dog that would open the fridge and help himself; they had to put a lock on it. Looks like this family may have to consider the same thing!

You know those large plastic jars of nuts from Costco, etc. My dog Scout is able to open those!! I have a collection of covers with tooth marks - reminders of when I forgot to put the jar on a shelf she can't reach. katie

Very smart yet gentle dog to get the whipped cream without wrecking the can. We had a sheltie that my husband used to feed some peanuts that he shelled while the dog watched. One day my husband fell asleep so the dog took a peanut in the shell figured out how to crack it and even removed the red skin from each peanut and before eating them as I watched him.

Dogs are amazing!

Our neighbors dog has adopted my husband and I for some reason. I don't know if she can tell time, but she is waiting by our mail box everyday, when we get off work. She is so glad to see us, and romps around, between the two of us just saying hi, then she sits down and expects some good pets, and off she goes, back home.

@lauriebasler we adopted our neighbors dog, too . We felt it was a rescue as she was going to send the poor Sheltie to the pound. Gasp! We would walk Perry daily as he was used to it more than we were. Each time, he would try to lead us to his old house across the street.
Finally, one day, I walked him over to his old home. His previous owner had remarried and moved. The house was for sale. I let him sniff around his old back yard til he finally took a peek into the vacant house through the back door. I softly explained his mommy is gone. That this was not his home any longer. I was going to be his new mommy and we were so happy to have him in our house across the street.
Well, do you know? Perry never ever looked towards that house again? He was loyal to us for 10 years until he passed away at age 15 just 2 years ago.

That is a such a special story. Shelties are loyal dogs, I bet he just needed to know his old owner was not there, out of loyalty and the protective nature dogs have toward their owners. Once he knew that, he was free to be a happy and much loved dog.

I would love to see a pic of Perry. The loss of an animal is much harder on us than we like to talk about. And two years is not a very long time.

I hope for the sake of animals in need you have decided to give another abandoned animal the kind of life Perry had.

I had a whole post of photos of my pets ready and my phone messed it up. I am going to send them individually to save time. So Perry will be the next you see, then others of other pets whom I love all equally.

Oh, yes! We took care of 3 chihuahua puppies for a friend who broke her leg badly in an accident. She used to be a show dog breeder. That was 2 years ago plus we agreed to take one more puppy. While the dogs have show dog bloodlines, they are not show dogs. Shrug. They are the perfect pets. We like to think we saved them from a life of breeding. After Perry passed, a year after BamBam passed, we decided "no more". But you know we don't choose dogs, rather dogs find us. Here is BamBam.

oh wow. @ShadyGreenThumb - Cheryl, not just everybody has a turtle. Reminds me of the movie I bought a Zoo. for putting this up, I got a kick out of them. If you look at every single picture it looks like every single little creature knew it was picture time, and posed just for you.!!
