I'm putting together a list of hyacinth that I want to get and I'm in a bit of a quandary. There is a somewhat 'rare' bulb that I've been drooling over for the past couple of years. It's called 'Dark Dimension' and is pictured below.
The problem is that it is rather pricey at $6.90 each. A group of 5 runs $32.00. Granted, I spend more than that on a hosta usually without thinking. But with the squirrel and deer having a tendency to dig up my bulbs, I'm wary of taking the plunge. Thoughts?

Could you cover them with a plastic netting after they have been planted? Than hit them with a deer and rabbits repellant in the spring when they emerge? How do you protect your hostas from deer?

Using the netting last year seemed to work ok. As far as the deer are concerned though, they are used to the various products on the market. (And I can just put down so much netting!)

I'm probably going to bite the bullet and get 5 and mix them with either white or yellow to bring out the 'black' color.

Rick, cool looking hyacinths. Yep, kinda pricey. If we should buy a slew of them, we will get better price. Count me in for ten bulbs.

Hang on a sec! You mean I get to baby sit your bulbs while you're off in the Mediterranean? I somehow think I'm getting the wrong end of the deal here. Rolling on the floor laughing

@RickM see my post above .

Lisa's order of $40 would be $80 without half off, so shipping would be 10% or $8.00.

Thanks Judy. Shipping worked to be about $8 when I placed my order. That's still nearly 20% of the subtotal but the bulbs are distinctive.
