Hello all, know it MUST be close to fall now, got my first box of peony roots in the mail yesterday! Crazy work week so I planted them out really quickly without taking pics but they were the normal looking roots from Gilbert Wild. Got Esmeralda, Feather Top, Florence Bond, Madame Ducel, Okinawa and Peppermint.

It's that time of year, isn't it? Sad to see another season gone but look forward to the next cycle. Are they in your newly made garden bed?

Liz. You got yours already? Oh dear. Ours usually ship early as our ground is quite frozen before you all down south. It will be a race to dig up dahlias for storage, then dig holes for peonies.

I haven't put any in the new beds yet, Tracey--I'm still working on them! I want to get the edging around the ones I'll use this fall before I plant in them. Mary, GW surprised me with how early they shipped, don't think I've ever gotten any this early before. Hoping to have at least 2 beds edged by the end of this weekend, then the rest can start showing up!

Just got notification from Swenson's that my order is in the mail; looks like I'll be planting next weekend! Got the border around 2 of the 4 new beds but they're really not ready. I wanted to add several inches of planters mix to build up the soil but I'm not comfortable planting immediately after doing so with no time for the new soil to settle--probably will be at least a 6" difference at the middle of the beds. Guess I'll just have to amend some with each planting hole and redo that bed much later. Should only need one of them for this year's acquisitions so I can get the others ready in plenty of time before they're really needed.

I am in the same boat. Roots coming and I have nothing done to prep for them. Guess I will have to finally bite the bullet and start digging up plants in some existing beds to make way.

My box came today, and D'Aoust does NOT disappoint!
Not only did Lindsay send the four that I ordered as strong roots with buds,
but she sent a beautiful surprise root for The Fawn ! It is a unique double pink with deeper pink dots on the petals !
The four are Thumbelina, May Apple, Salmon Glory and Bowl of Cream.

I am just tickled pink with these peony roots.

Now need to get out there and dig!

All beauties. I especially love May Apple. We are supposed to have one in the botanical gardens but I can't find it. Mislabeled I guess.

Wonderful selections, Caroline! So exciting, hope all do well for you! My box from Swenson's is expected to arrive on Thursday, guess I'll be planting on Friday! I have Frances, Green Lotus, Lovebirds, Rose Nobel and Truth coming.

Adelman's arrived. Disappointment. I ordered a P. tenuifolia Rubra that was not sent. They said it 'didn't meet their standards." Drat. It was slated for the botanical garden.

That is disappointing!
I gambled on a Tenuifolia Plena which is supposed to be a red double.
Several people at the plant sale questioned me for buying " a dead plant".

When I got home I took the root out of the pot,
and it is smaller , but does have several buds.

The tenuifolia will generally have smaller roots than a regular herbaceous. That is why I took special precautions when digging mine.

Did not clean them and not sure how nicely I could divide them. As everybody else I did not prepare planting holes in advance...

Thanks everyone. Karen, it is based on your recommendation that I got those in the first place and hope I'll get blooms as nice as yours in no time Smiling I probably will not divide as PE is rumored to be a slow grower.
