Just thought I'd post a pic of my "nursery". These are all of my baby adeniums - all started around the end of April this year (4/24/16, I think). One of these days I'll make my husband happy and move them off of the pool deck to around the back of the house by my greenhouse. I had to keep them up front while they were just wee little things, tho, so I could keep an eye on them! Most have outgrown the "wee" stage tho...

There are three that were started late January from some old seed I had from 2014 I'd forgotten about. Oddly enough, those three are much smaller than most of the rest of them. Not showing dwarf tendencies, just growing very slowly. Thezy seem to be picking up a little since I potted them up a month or so ago, though. I'm wondering if their retarded growth was due to the seed being so old - frankly, I was suprised they germinated, 4 of 6 germinated and I only lost 1 of the 4 because it didn't germinate "correctly" and just never grew - or because they just needed to be potted up and it took me forever to get around to it (or a combination of the two).

Nice group of seedlings there and will look like more when they grow and need to be potted up. Funny how we make compromises w our plants. I bring home or order them hoping that they will just slid in and go unnoticed. Does not work, but always worth a try.
Just thinking about bringing mine in, in the next few weeks as the night temps. are not consistent anymore.

Thanks, Rick. I've got about half of the seedlings in 6" pot snow, so those are good for at least a little while. The rest will probably stay in their current pots (either quart or 4") at this point because I don't want to overpot them so close to winter. Lol, I have so many plants and my husband has so little interest in them that it is really easy for me to slip new ones in without him noticing. The trick is just to make sure I beat him home so I CAN sneak the new one(s) in!!

As for bringing in, I do bring in a few of my more treasured plants, the rest go into the greenhouse until it's stuffed to the gills, and anything left over has to suffer thru under the south side eaves of the house. Luckily, tho, I'm in zone 9b, and while we get an occasional overnight dip below freezing for a few hours, it's not too unusual for us to make it all the way thru winter without a freeze at all. Most of my plants can handle our mild winters, but those more tender or "special" to me get brought into shelter.

Carter, Haven't you been having a lot of rain? Have they been protected from that? Your plants look great. Don't think our partners don't see us add to the pile :-). They are just overlooking. Mine will till I to bring them in soon.

My hubs grows plants we can eat. He supports and even helps with watering of my adeniums...so long as I don't stick my nose into his vegetable garden.

I figure it all balances out. We both have things or hobbies and I have my plants (in copious quantities). Theatre is the other activity that keeps us busy and that is his. The vegetable garden is a must and I always enjoy it when I can make "Greek Salad" and everything in it comes from our garden, even make my own Feta Cheese for it. Oh! I guess the Olives do not come from here. Leave them out then.

Plant people are such great people. People always look at me funny when I mention something about one of my "plant friends". I don't know if they think I consider my plants friends or if I'm just weird because we plant people actually DO have a community (albeit a very spread out one)!

@Crystalview - ha, we've been getting a lot of rain - almost too much. So far everything is ok, but if my plants don't get to dry out a little soon I'm going to start losing some to root rot. I've only lost a couple of plants so far - but no adeniums.

Do not mean to take room or time away from this thread, Carter. I had the opportunity to sit and talk w the President of the Cactus & Succulent Society here and it was a treat. What surprised me was his comment while we where speaking. He said, "It is sure nice to sit and converse w someone w a passion for these and other plants." Probably he is like most of us and is not in the company of people that much that have a similar passion. The fella from the Cactus & Succulent Nursery close by, was much the same. The time just fly's by when you get talking. Was almost late making my pick up time from the Airport because of it!

No worries on the "threadjack", Rick - I kinda hijacked my own thread first! I completely understand what you mean. A few weeks ago I went to visit a friend of mine who owns a local web nursery (Zone 9 Tropicals). It was just so refreshing? Invigorating? Enthralling? ...to just "shop talk" with someone with the same passion for plants as I do. We were running all around his greenhouses so he could show me this or that or another. Having these types of encounters is like walking thru a beautiful jungle (life) and then hitting a brilliant patch of sunlight. It's all wonderful, these are just special occurrences.
