I have created a new rule on the site today. Starting now, members whose membership is less than 2 weeks old may not post links to other sites in any forum posts or tree mail. If they attempt to post a link, they will receive an error message of explanation. They can still post, but they have to remove all links from their post. Once their account is 2 weeks old, this restriction is limited.

Very smart! People sign up to be members and start their spamming. This will really help to discourage them. Only the really patient will wait to do their spamming.

It will help discourage those pesky spammers that like to cover the site with spammy posts at night while you are sleeping. I'm up and on the site at weird times and they drive me crazy.

Excellent idea since most of these people are drive by spammers. Most will not be patient enough to wait and come back. Even the ones that are will think twice when they realize we are proactive against spam.

Newbies don't need signatures right at the beginning. They can add them after 2 weeks.

Those are not restricted. If spammers start to abuse those, then I'll add them to the restriction.

At least, if any DO spend enough time onsite to find the signature block feature, we'll get a better and more thoughtful class of spammers.

A lot of spammers are spam bots actually.

They won't last long on this website. Dave will sic his bot-eating dragon on them!

I just reported a thread in the Question forum that has a link from a new member; I did not click on the link but it looked suspicious to me.

Oh well, others clicked and it apparently was a simple picture..... there's me being overly suspicious....
