Wow, wow, wow. I waited 25 years to see my first seed pods grow (last year) from one of my plants, and I was so proud.

Yesterday, I finally got caught up with shipping plants and today was spent in my "Plumeria Patch". I fertilized, up-potted some, and staked some. While doing the chores I found three plants with seed pods. One has two, one has four, and one has twelve pods. Happy days are here again.

Can you see the twelve in photos 4 and 5?

I need to be more observant. How does someone NOT see 12 seed-pods on a plant? *Blush* I have a virtual jungle of plumeria.

12 pods on one tree?! I would be happy with 1! Congrats! You must be elated!

I am almost too tired to be elated, James. Sticking tongue out This heat and humidity is killing me. But I am certainly happy. Now do I allow these three plants to go dormant or baby them in the solarium over those 5 months? Question, questions, and too early to make those decisions.

Man, don't ask me, Jeff (even if its tongue in cheek). When it comes to seed-pods, I am a novice. I am amazed though, how many of my plumeria have decided to now grow inflo. It's a little late in the season for blooming. It looks like I'll have to make more room for them in the solarium when the time comes to put them all inside.

If you grow those seeds will that give you the option to name a new variety of Plumeria? How does that work ??

Yep. Unless the plants are kept in completely controlled conditions, and pollinated by hand so that the pollinator is precisely known, each seedling will be a one-of-a-kind plant. The seedlings may be similar to the pod-parent, but not necessarily so, and certainly won't be a copy of the pod-parent. I will never know where the pollen came from. I know that my plants supplied the pollen (there may not be another plumeria in a 100 square mile area!), but I have over a dozen varieties that flowered in the spring/summer. I guess my plumeria can also self pollinate, but I will never know that. All I can do is list the pod-parent. When these seedlings flower, that's when I put a name to them.

I assume, particularly with the one that has 12 seed-pods, that every single flower could have been pollinated by a different plant, and thus, each seedling germinated from those twelve pods may be different. I guess, since these pods are growing by two's, and each two are from the same flower, I will have six different possibilities. This has gotten to be really fun stuff.

Now I'm to the double Holy cow. Sixteen seed-pods on that single Soft Pink plant. This is only a two year old, 4' tall plumeria.

Holy geez, Ken!!! What are you going to do with all of these seeds?!

I am surprised myself that my 'Princess pink' that is only at one year old from a 6" cutting is already 5ft tall and is growing 4 pods!

I don't know what I'll do with the seeds. That's something I will have to deal with next May/June.
