Yuk Margaret. It is 49 outside, clear skies, which of course means that it will be 25F or so over night. Snow came last year Sept 30 so it has been holding off. Thank heavens. Still trying to finish getting stuff back in the ground. Spraying moose repellent on the two front beds.

The best thing I can say about snow is... I'd rather be in a snowstorm than a hurricane!

The weather is certainly changing from summer to winter quickly up there, Margaret!

Going out to shovel the walks, but I am still planning to dig in more bulbs when this melts! I need to dig up the soil remote thermometer and replace the batteries. But I know the ground is above freezing at the level of the bulbs.

It didn't make it below freezing last night or the night before. So I am going to buy tulips to plant. Really pushing the envelope. The frozen crust on the ground is going to form and stay one of these days.

Moose fence is up. Hope it works. I need to get in there and cut down all the plants (except bushes) to further deter them from wanting to get in there. The fence is more to protect my small new bushes and the roots and tubers from big hooves. Plantskyyd is sprayed everywhere. May even resort to hanging Irish Spring from the wires. Anything to keep them out. More so to keep them from destroying the fence. What a mess that would be.

Mary, the deer around here seem bad enough to me... I can't imagine have moose trampling around in the yard and garden! Blinking

I hope all your preparation works... it sounds to me like you're doing everything possible. Crossing Fingers!

Well in the past few days we have had a low of 30 degrees and yesterday I saw no bumbles on the raspberries but today they are out there in force.
Sixty seven right now and rising.

That's amazing. It's 37 here with a light wind and sunny skies. At least it isn't dark. I can handle the cold, especially when I am in the house. Rolling on the floor laughing No way you can 'handle' the dark all the time - but it is coming. Crying

I agree, Mary -- our winter days are short enough "way down here" where I am...; and then, of course, when you add on the days of no sunlight because it's just downright gloomy Sticking tongue out . No wonder so many northern animals just hibernate!

Hilarious! I agree. Don't want to wish my life away though. Turned 70 this past Tuesday. Gotta' 'make hay' while I can.' I am going to take up knitting again. Dig out the projects I put away last February. Two that need finishing and one barely started. One would be a Christmas present so best to get hopping.

I will see if my daughter would like to start up again and we can take turns; first her house (on Saturday as she works) and then mine. Coffee, light munchies, and knitting. That sounds about right. Hurray!

13F this morning; pond is frozen over. Need to put out deicers and pour boiling water over them to get them seated in the water. Dawdled around too long (once again.)

Happy Birthday, does the PlantSkydd work for Moose repellant. I use to see them at the Anchorage airport, wouldn't want to hit one on takeoff.

Mary, happy belated birthday to you!

Doing knitting projects with your daughter sounds like a fun way to make the winter go by! I have an unfinished afghan that I've made one of my wintertime goals, and have a couple of other projects that I'd like to make. Plus, I really need to figure out how to do more than sew a straight stitch on a nice sewing machine that I bought a couple of years ago... I used to do a lot of sewing, knitting, other crafts; not sure what happened that I've gotten away from all of that for quite a while. Hmmm... maybe the internet? Rolling my eyes.

@crawgarden Yup. Does a pretty good job of keeping them out of the garden. And yes, hitting one on the runway would be wayyyy bad. For both moose and plane. Never saw one at the airport myself. Maybe at the outer edges. Or at Kunis when the Air Reserve used the south side of the airport property.

I spent a very depressing time trying to pick up a knitting project that I laid down in February. So frustrating. I cannot reconcile the next instructions with where I left off. Knits to Knits and Purls to Purls. Guess I will have to take it into the yarn shop and get some help to get going again.

Cleaned up the garage floor and counter of all gardening stuff. What a mess. I retrieved my bucket of lily tubers from the crawl space, and at the advice of Rick and Lorn on the lily forum, will be layering them in a box with dirt, then out to the side of the house for the winter. I am sure it will work better than being in the basement probably just molding down there all dumped together into a bucket.

Down to 20F now, at 9pm. Brrr. So glad I got my garage cleaned so my car can have a nice warm place to stay. Thanks for the birthday wishes. Off to another year older. Whistling

Yup, it was Arlene. Thanks. Got a nice warm double layer polar fleece lap robe from the kids (they spent 40 minutes picking out the material according to my DIL. My grandson was so insistent that it be just right. Because my dog is named Woody, he thought it had to do with "Toystory" and was looking for fleece with that theme, and when they couldn't find that he wanted one with dog paws (since I share my lap robes with Woody) -- no luck there. They finally found something and my DIL was up to 2am painstakingly tieing the edging together. Guess Nick didn't help with that. lol. She held it up for him to look at before she started and asked him several times "is it straight.?" and he said yes. But didn't notice that one piece was backwards so all the words (bark, bow-wow etc) were backwards. Neither did she til I opened it up and couldn't figure out why I couldn't read it. We all laughed than waited for Nick to come home so we could rib him. I held it up and said "Nick, what does this say." He faithfully said, bow-wow, arf-arf, etc. like he was reading it. But he was only saying what he remembered it said. Still didn't notice the error. All in all a happy cheerful evening.
